Jeez, looking at some of the links from the last post its funny how a HOPEFUL RUMOR with no basis in fact can snowball into something so big. Yes, speculation sure is fun.....

Ok, here's what we know from Amos at Moog:

"Expect a BIG announcement about a little addition to our product line. Until then, we will leave you guessing. "

....hmm....what else. OH! Thats it! Must be a new synth!
Am I the only one who thinks this this is being over-analyzed?

It is, but I'm quite, quite sad and am enjoying my night off work over-analysing potentially a pointless moment in my musical career.
But my word, its fun.
Beats mixing my album.

Having just stopped using computers to make music, if it was a hardware/software thingummybob, I think I'd cry... :(

"A new Moog, unveiled to the world."

Maybe I spoke too soon :)

exactly! grrr...

Calling it "A moog" surely means its a synth? Would you say about your moogerfooger pedal "Look at my Moog"? hmmm... no.

Maybe it's something like that fake/softsynth Korg MS20?

Would anyone want one of those?

I think that this is a knob with tiny LEDs around it. Maybe a synth - but as I said I would love to see a sequencer. Whatever it is, it is most welcomed.

:D

I think the word "hip" was a clue. I'm thinkin' this thing straps on. A little birdie somewhere told me that it's a very good possibility that it's got strap locks. I'm thinkin' Liberation MkII.... Or maybe a VA, kind of along the lines of MicroKORG.

I *REALLY* hope it's not a Voyager accessory! I like the idea of a Moog that I can actually afford!

Is that just from what Cruel Hoax said on VSE? But they did put hip in quotes. It's interesting that the knob looking thing would have 16 circles if you kept counting all the way around. Perhaps this thing really could have a sequencer on it.

It's the new Moog KNOB (Kinetic Neural Oscillator Bank).

A wooden Box with just one knob and an Antenna that, via the antenna, connects with the neurons in your brain to make oscilations with the built in neural Oscillator bank.

It can be used in hospitals as a healing mechanisms for hip injuries. Elderly people will profit from the regenerative powers of the neurally transmitted sounds.

Couples who have difficulties reproducing will profit from this system because of the love that streams out of the electromagnetic groove field and thus enhances the shibby area in adults.

"A new Moog, unveiled to the world."

That sounds like a new synthesizer to me.
But this time there's no name the synth contest. Maybe they'll just show a prototype at the Musikmesse and let people make up a name afterwards? Who nose.

The knob looks like a sequencer knob or something with 16 steps. So maybe IT is the drum machine some are mentioning, or indeed a sequencer.

In any case, the one clue, a knob, indicates that IT will have at least one knob (that possibly does 16 different things).

If it were a modular, I'd wail and shiver.

I reckon its a new small monosynth with endless rotary encoders, a stripped down version of the voyager that can be worn on a guitar strap as well. It wont be a drum machine as thats too specialised for moog right now. I reckon it may not have patch memories so the lights round the dials show you where your controls are set at. Intruiging!
Moog Gear: Voyager AE,LP Stage 2+CV outs (Blue LED's/Wheels, MF104SD, MF101 Filter, MF103 Phaser, Source, Memorymoog+, Minitaur.

ah my message just went walk about!!!

NOW I HAVE TO TYPE IT ALL AGAIN!

ok LEDs = indicator of knob position in patch IMO

this implies patch memory, and as much as i hate to say it, i think it also implies that it's not a cheaper synth

why give a cheaper synth than the voyger a more advanced funtion?

also

"a new moog unveiled to the world"

implies it's the first time the world has seen it

implies some crazy new thing

although the voyaGER was a recreation of the model D, so the world had seen it before kind of?

maybe it could be a new synth that just happens to be cheaper than the voyager, i hope so.

but then why go to all the bother of having clues?

i think moog is making something that has never been seen before
but i also think it will be cheaper than the voyager, even if it's not a synth, from the use of the word "hip"

interesting about the sequencer idea, that would tie in with the word "hip"

ah it will surely be cool for them to do all this stuff?

if it is a synth i bet it will be the best synth ever made!!

just had a thought

maybe that nob is an attenuator and the LEDs represnt different destinations
so you could see how much of whatever is input is going where, according to the brightness/colour of each LED?

hmm 16 destinations, that would be crazy
