EricK, That's awesome! My best friend, also named Eric, has an old Yamaha MIDI computer with one program cartridge. It was meant to be used with a DX-7. We still haven't figured out how to use it for anything.

Do you mean the Yamaha CX5M oron of their other music computers fromthe mid 80's. It has a built in 4 op FM synth ( same as the DX 9 ) and with plug in cartrs you could program the DX7. Other carts would let you do other fun things. Was pretty much a flop

. Early ones you had to use the keyoard Yamaha provided. There are some "user" groups on line I think.

It's some kind of CX-5 I think. Thanks for the info! The cartridge contains a program that lets you choose whatever instrument from a list, and using a Yamaha MIDI keyboard from that era, you can play whatever instrument from the list. I tried to use my LP with it, but the computer doesn't recognize it.

Well... I'm new here, so I'll introduce my rig.

The Little Phatty is new -- just got it today. I have some basses and leads to record today, and the time to do it, so the timing is excellent.

From top to bottom of the main stand:

Akai AX60
Roland JX8P
Roland Fantom X6
Vox Jaguar organ

Not visible: Korg DW8000, Fender P-Bass, Grestch Double Jet, Ibanez AS-120.

I'm going to have to work out where the Phatty will sit in my live rig... rpobably on top of the Vox...

Welcome to the forum. Nice looking rig! NOthing at all too shabby about the Fantom series units either.

I love me some AX60. Most underrated analog poly EVER! Unfortunately, mine has seen better days and I've been trying to sell it off for parts.

Cool stuff, EricK! I like the fretless bass. Is that a Carvin? The Yamaha organ looks to be in great shape. In better shape than the 1150, which seems to have been well used. The acoustic bass is interesting, as well as the saxophone and trumpet.

I got the 1130 off of ebay. I was prepared to pay 350 for it, but I think I got it for 240. It still works, I think it was stored inproperly though. THe S-trig and the accessory plugs are white with corrosion and the paint is flaking off.

WHen you remove the head, there is a foam padding that comes off. Underneath that is a wooden bed with a small hole in it. Underneath that is a speaker. I guess whats in there is an envelope follower. It sends a gate and a variable voltage to your destination based on how hard you hit the drum.

THe carvin is my baby. Its had the same strings on it since like 1996 lol. Find a flatwound B string. lol Its hard.

Fender makes plastic coated smooth strings, but I've never heard of a flatwound B string.

Thanks for the welcome, guys. The Fantom is a damned useful instrument. The combination of ROMpler, sequencer, rhythm and sampler is very powerful. It doesn't produce pads like the JX8P or leads like the Moog, but that's not what I use it for. I agree that the AX60 is vastly underrated. It is a much more aggressive instrument than similar Rolands of the period. It isn't polished and it's one VCO/voice, but it really bites. And the Vox is great to play. I love combo organs -- I've had a few -- and the Vox is one of my faves. It's a pain to gig, though. It isn't super heavy, but it's big and fragile. I always have a soldering iron with me in case I need to make a quick pre-gig repair. I'm eager to see what the Nord Electro 3 will be like...

I've had a Farfisa Professional, Farfisa Combo Compact, Ace-Tone Top Five and the Jaguar. I've played a Vox Continental, Yamaha YC-20 and a Farfisa VIP-345.

The Matador is basically the home version of the VIP. I really dig the sound, and one of these days, I'll find one, or a VIP, in good working order. Apart from that, I think the YC-20 is the best of the lot. Very well made, with a great sound.
