Just got a hold of a second hand Opus3, plugged her in seems to work okay. Dirty on the outside, so did a good cleaning. Opened her up & had the typical foam deterioration issue common to these units. Cleaned the "tar" that the foam turned into from the inside of the chassis. Took the circuit board out, will clean it up & replace all the audio sliders from Technology Transplant. Wish me luck..

Welcome and congrats on your purchase. The Opus 3 is a great little poly synth designed mainly by Herb Deutsch.

It's worth the extra effort to clean it and replace the sliders. I wish you success in your endeavor.

Shocked and amazed that you received anything from Tech Transplant; I've heard of problems.

But congrats on the Opus 3. Great chorus in there, band pass filter on the strings, an old school low-pass with a modulation that fades in. Very much an underrated synth. I could do without the Organ section but otherwise, String and Brass are great.

My first Moog - of many!

Really great 5-octave pipe organ sounds. It's not a great "synthesizer" but it was very well designed and solid for the time. Especially for the price.

I do know that Dave Luce was one of the engineers on this (though almost all Norlin-era Moog products run through a team of talented engineers and designers). Herb was the one who laid out the front panel, which is itself, intuitive (compared to the Polymoog) and easy to work.

This is my second "old school" Moog, first being a MG1 which I rebuilt using Transplant Tech kit. No problem getting the kit, took about 3 weeks. Looking forward to changing out all the sliders with TTech replacements for the Opus.
