what should I buy help!!!!
I'm trying to decide between the novation xstation25 and the microkorg. I really like some of the presets on the novation, and the microkorg sounds kind of weak when I've demoed it in stores....I'm trying to play music similar or in the same vein as reggie and the full effect circa the under the tray album, just so you know the sound I'm going for please help with any advice you can. Thanks.

Well, I'm pretty sure Reggie used a MicroKorg in his last two albums, I've seen a bunch of live videos where he is rocking out on the Micro while singing.
I don't know much about either synth but everytime I see Micro I cringe at how small the keys are!....but it is a cute little package (did i just say cute???)....

Neither, the microkorg is one serious peice of crap. Stay away. Get a Alesis Micron instead. Truly an amazing sound at such a small price.
Go with the X Station for sure. Novations are so much better than Microns and MicroKorgs. I have a friend with a K-Station that sound so much richer than any microKorg I've ever played. The X-Station is just a super K-Station. I don't even find these synths comparable. The Novation has great, versitile sounds. Waaaaaaay more features including mod options, another osc, a way better arpeggiator, etc. It also has tons of hands on control. Controll for miles. The micro is such a pain to program, but this has everything out where you can get to it. It also has a better display screen. The keyboard is shorter, but it definitely beats mini keys. However, I would suggest going the extra money for a X-Station 49. That little keyboard can be kind of limited, but of course if you already have a bigger midi controller this won't be a problem. Which brings me to the use of either one as a compact midi controller. The Micro just has midi. The X-Station is a midi controller, with controls applying to midi, and velocity-sensitive/multi-timberal keys with aftertouch. If you want to be "cute" with it, the 25 is still pretty cute. You made no mention of whether or not this will be your first synth. If it is, you have potential to get tired of that microKorg as you move on to better things. You will keep that X-Station for a long time.
No doubt in my mind.
X-Station.

PS - Did I mention that I hate all the prestes on the micro. They are all drenched in delay, or are arpeggiated.

I've heard some bad things about the dependability of the novation saying that it crashes frequently which sounded pretty annoying. I heard though that the microkorg is capable of sounding just like an mg-1 anyone have any experience with that? And yes this is my first synth to answer whoever asked.

I think that the thread was started for people who could compare either synth with a Minimoog, or Memorymoog, as far as the thickness of the sound. Makes sense to me.

ehhhhhhhh wellllllllllllllllllllll
I was hoping people could give me insight as to the rumor that the microkorg can sound just about the same as anything the mg-1 can do when you tweak the sounds. Anybody have any experience with any of this?

I haven't ever sat down and compared them, but I can tell you right now that rumor is not true. I used to own an MS2000 (exact same sound engine as the micro), not even close to any Moog.klaus wrote:I was hoping people could give me insight as to the rumor that the microkorg can sound just about the same as anything the mg-1 can do when you tweak the sounds. I've never used an MG-1. But, last April, I attneded a presentation by APOLLO/LYRA, where he played the Voyager Performance Edition along side the MS-2000B. The 2000B has a wonderful sound, but I wouldn't be so quick to compare it to a Moog. Truth be told, there's a Pacific Ocean between analog and analog modeling.

about the mg1 sounding exactly like an microkorg..-
No way.. I would say that the MG1 is one of the strangest most unique sounding small, inexpensive moogs.. My MS2000 can't touch my MG1, sonically- So I assume the microkorg can't either.. the mg1 has 5 sources of tone, including that cheesy polyphony section my wife loves.. Plus random wave shape modulation for filter/osc's... Nothing about digital is random - modeling synths suck for things that only analog can do well.. I have an ms 2000 and sweeping the filter just doesn't feel or sound as good as even the cheapest analog filter does while sweeping...
But for a first synth I personally wouldn't buy an MG1.. I will also never sell my MG1 as where I sold my Prodigy a month ago !
