New product to replace LP?

Post by MC » Tue Sep 10, 2013 9:51 am

So the announcement of the discontinuation of the Little Phatty says that production will continue until components run out which is about two months...

...which puts that to early November - two months before NAMM.

Is there a big new product on the horizon? or two?

I also find it interesting that the Voyager is still going strong, which uses rapidly depleting through hole components on its most dense PC board - the analog board.

Yeah, the phat-mo'-phatty is the replacement. An SMD board with a 46 key keybed and minifoogers built-in. LOL.

I still say bring on the 128 voice modular rackmount 88 microkey budget polysynth.

Something else in the Minitaur format, maybe? A 'NanoMoog', with basic Model D capabilities and some hidden/software editor-only parameters squashed into that footprint, that could be rack-mounted right alongside the Minitaur? I know I'm not going to get a PolyEvolver-style unit with no knobs and four Voyager voices editable from the Voyager panel, so naturally I won't mention it;)

I think it's going to be an extensible 4-voice. I'm guessing majorly but thinking of a company of Moog's size, it's going to be tough to go out and make the 12 voice that everybody is dreaming of. Dave Smith did it, I have no idea how...

But if Moog can craft the oft requested SubPhatty in rack or standalone format and use those as extra modules for a 4-voice base, I think they will get some takers. Dave Smith has the Mopho x4 which you can add a Tetra to... not sure how many he sold in that combination but it seemed smart.

What about a 2-voice, maybe something with 4 octave keyboard, Sub-phatty on the left side and another type of voice for the right hand of the split with extensibility?

I doubt that very much... There are still a lot of available DIP packaging in stock...and even some still made today.

Mellophatty - digital Mellotron with Moog filters, ribbon, poly aftertouch, and all new LFO3 design.

In production 2015, after Moog Music acquires the rights to Mellotron and the M4000D designs from that dude in Sweden.
