MG-1 restoration parts...

Post by Stuka » Thu Feb 14, 2013 11:49 am

Just wondering, has anyone here has any recent dealings / recommendations with any companies that offer replacement parts for restoring MG-1's?

I know mine is suffering the dreaded foam deterioration gunk, and I figure it would be easier in the long run to just replace all the slider pots, provided the cost would be reasonable.

Any recommendations would be appreciated - thanks!

A friend of mine bought this and, although the sliders and switches aren't quite as smooth as the originals, they work great.

Although, I would also suggest to replace the original dust guard foam (commonly known as the Foam Of Death) by something else, to protect the slots from dirt and dust, as the opening in the new sliders is rather large.
My friend made a piece of thin cardboard (cereal box type) that he colored black with a marker, in which he cut narrow slits, for sliders shafts, and holes for the switches. There is still an opening, but much narrower than the one on the original front panel and new potentiometers.

A felt could also be used, too, instead of cardboard... Just some suggestions.

I used their Rogue kit and replaced all my sliders and faded slider knobs. Also replaced all the switches - that black gunk got everywhere. Anyway since then it's been like a new synth.

Some before pictures (this was after an hour of cleaning):

Hey guys.
I had my MG1 fixed last month - tone sources were silent. Now I would like to replace the sliders, they're kind of tired.
The Technology Transplant's website has been out for a year or so, Perfect Audio does not list the slider kit and Syntaur do not have them in stock.

Any suggestion as to where I could find some? Or should I just wait for the Syntaur's stock to be positive again?

Thanks!

I love the MG-1! My Voyager OS is in Asheville getting repaired, so I've been gigging with the MG-1, and forgot how good these little guys sound!

Man, you've been away for a while now!! Good to read you again :)
I've watched your Mack Truck Behind lastly ;)

Same here: Voyager OS is great. I don't use it that much though because it's not the one I haul around. The MG1 is great too, in another way. I may get a Liberation soon moreover...
