The Moslab q960 has a version with a dual gate bus and an optional quantizer board in the 8 spaces.

Then there's the GRP sequencer which, compared to the Moon, looks like it's the most advanced. Maybe bypass the q119. It's a decent sequencer but you should do better with that system.

The MOSLAB 960 is an interesting sequencer Eric. Thanks for the tip. It seems to be pretty much like my 960. Does the quantizer quantize the notes like the Dotcom Q171? The MOSLAB site is a bit light on descriptions of the modules.

The GRP looks like a very advanced product. Some of the "digital-ness" is a bit frightening. I'd really like to keep as much of the modular true to the analog domain. Still it's very impressive. The cost is also quite high. Around $2200 without shipping and (gulp).... HST

Could I ask why you're not so fond of the Q119? In the comparison between it and the Q960 there seem to be some cool features the Q119 has that are missing in the Q960 (and vice versa). I figured having two sequencers with different features might be useful in creating a wider range of sequence features. It's also rather affordable.

The q119 is decent, particularly because of the glide function. But the lack of a skip function really makes it a bargain sequencer. Programming sequence length in real time is impossible. It's great for a basic cv sequencer but just get 2 960s because its much more playable. The Moon QSVS is probably the best one to get from what people on Muffs report, but it always seemed like it really needed the helper modules, which take up a huge amount of space.

You might want to email Seb about the quantizer options of the 960. It's supposed to be a clone of one of Froese's sequencers.

Your cabinets look fantastic and you have a helluva system there.

Thanks for the kind comments Eric!

Actually this month marks the one year mark from when my system grew from a 22U Dotcom cabinet with two oscillators, one filter and a VCA to the six oscillator, seven filter, five VCA system pictured above (there are, of course a few other types of modules :) ).

I'm really loving working with the modular and while my Sub 37 is an incredible machine I find myself sculpting sounds more often with the modular and relegating the Sub 37 to the role of controller or external sequencer.

Very interesting points you make about the Q119. I can definitely see how those limitations can hamper its usefulness. I think I'll wait and put together the cash for one of the more elaborate system or at least keep my eyes open for another Q960. I have to admit that I use its realtime features quite often and they make it very flexible.

Thanks again for your help!
Rich

i have the Moon 569 (Quad Voltage Sequencer) as well as the q119.

They both have their benefits. Are you sequencing melodies or modulation? the q119 can run at audio rates, which most sequencers can't.

Actually, I had never thought of sequencing anything but melodies. What a cool concept. Every day I learn something else a modular can do!

Speaking of the audio rate, your 960 can become a VCO.

Just got a Waldorf Pulse 2. This is definitely one underrated analog synth. Even before you dive into
The modulation options, arpeggiator, and VCA functions..the oscillator and filter combinations really
Open it up to some awesome sound design! I recommend one to anyone looking for a 3 oscillator analog
Synth, with 8 note paraphonic possibilities.

I had an eye on this one for some time. I might purchase it as soon as possible!!!
My own latest purchase is a Slim Phatty. It looks exactly like the first picture of this thread! I love it! (This is my second one: I sold the first one by mistake... )

Hi everyone. This is my second post (first is a new thread that is awaiting moderation).

After 30 years of collecting, playing, recording and modding synths, I finally have a Minimoog and LOVE it! In the background is my Roland System 100 synth and System 700 sequencer.
