So what is better about Logic X over Logic 9 ? I'm sure it's very good, but for my own use I've not seen a single feature that would entice me to upgrade. It seems to me that all the new features, like just about all Apple products now, are aimed at a more general userbase than for advanced amateurs or professionals.

So I'm not putting the product down, I am genuinely looking for enticing new features that would make me part with hard earned cash

70's MTI TUBES preamp, made in Japan, uses a 12 AX7 running at "medium high" plate voltage with a Fender tone stack driving a single-ended output section with a small 7-pin pentode, transformer-coupled to a resistive load, with a switchable reactive load. Sound is a dirty punky distortion type.

It is kind of limited because in a chord, notes are lost, but this is the case with many distortions. But I'm still tweaking it, but it has a nice subtle fuzz and the bass and treble pots make a difference on the clav. I don't think the freq response is all that great. I haven't tried it on a synth yet because of final exams. It will get down and dirty though.

What instrument do you want to hear?

I bought it for the Clav and vocals.

BTW, this thing should wreak havok on vocals when driven hard !

Cool pedal/preamp (and Clav... and phaser...)! I've seen those before, but never heard one.

Hex fuzz seems to help there (separate distortion for each string)! Really sounds like nothing else I've heard... imparts a nice spatial quality on chords and such.

Of course, it won't help with a Clav

IMO the new interface is worth the upgrade. I've noticed it makes my workflow a lot smoother. Also, track stacks are nice when you work with big pojects. I guess the change is not so much in terms of features but of overall feel.

On the plus side, the new instruments and plug-ins are rad (the new Vintage Electric Piano, Vintage Organ, Retro Synth, Drum Kit, Bass Amp Designer etc... are defo on par with some third party plug-ins - a few from Logic already were, Space Designer comes to mind). There are also new midi plug-ins such as an arpeggiator that are nice for people who uses midi gear. iPad remote is also nice if you own an iPad.

Yes, the new interface features are interesting but as I have no interest or use for instruments or plugins the upgrade price is not very attractive. Basically I just use it record and mix.

This was delivered last week but I only had the time to play with it for a couple of short sessions… it's the FFB with inductors and sounds magnificent. I put my VP-330 through it which makes it sound even better and just putting a single Mos-Lab Kobol oscillator through is just incredible !!
