will be used as a random noise source...
A Tecsun S-2000 (Grundig Satellit 750) at around $300 is a little expensive for a noise source.
But it's a nice shortwave radio...
I have a Grundig YB400PE myself. But I've never thought of using it as a noise source, good idea.

That's supposed to be a nice receiver. Please let me know how it works. You should be able to use any random wire as an antenna if something ever happens to your current one.
Here's a link to a video I did with my IC-718
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zSqGpSZi7Gk
I consolidated the radios into the synth for just this purpose (featuring the latest acquisition, the Roland DC-50):
And for those who don't want to pay for a real receiver you can still tune in to many of the ham bands:

Re: Post your latest purchase!!
At the moment I only have the idea to use it as a noise/sound source - in combination with the Voyager and/or with some Foogers. Most important it has line output. A first test results in some exciting Arabic yodeling and Chinese folk music and a lot of... NOISE.

Red,
Thanks!
I'm not exactly sure what the frequency range of that unit is, but listening to shortwave can become a hobby in and of itself. There is A LOT of interesting things you can sample, from international propaganda stations, news from everywhere, to the insane rantings of whack-o nutjobs to "numbers" (spy) stations.
I really enjoy listening to Radio Havana and Chinese english news and those should be the easiest to find. The effect on voices when you listen to sideband sounds very much like ring modulation. There is a lot of opportunities for that on the Amateur bands and especially on the CB freqs from 26.9 to 27.4. When the skip comes in there are a lot of chimes and if you are in the USA there is a lot of redneck nonsense that goes on with echo mics and roger beeps, etc.
There is a book you can get which will tell you when and where to listen for certain programs and you can find that here:
http://www.wrth.com/
It gets even more fun when you can transmit. The next addition I want to add to the shack and the car is a digital trunking scanner.
Good luck!
Eric
Thanks!

Re: Post your latest purchase!!
Last week I got some goodies from the Club Of The Knobs including their 901 oscillator suite clone and CP3 mixer. The 901A has been modified, so one of the CV inputs is routed to PWM !
And in this piece, you can hear what they sound like (… magnificent !!)

It started out as being a VCO demo but I got a little carried away…. this was done is one take so what you hear is live, warts and all.

Re: Post your latest purchase!!
In January I Sold my Little Phatty with full initiation of buying a used Voyager OS, and then at NAMM the new owners of Buchla announced a rerelease of the Easel. Well, 9 months later Fedex delivered my Easel. It wonderful
I still plan on buying a Voyager someday but this will take care of my GAS for a while.

Re: Post your latest purchase!!
Good to see another Prophet 12 here.
Re: Post your latest purchase!!
Keyboard on a SubPhatty sucks donkey balls. Sound on any DSI sucks ostrich eggs. Now if they could put the two together, that would really be something...

Okay, so I'm too lazy to take my own pics, though MatrixSynth was kind enough to post these from yesterday's MMTA synth meeting.
