Model D prices

Looks like market price for an average later serial # mini is about $3000-3500, though not many have sold recently on ebay. I am not familiar with the price history of these. I did pay $2300 for my 12xxx about 3 years ago, but I got a good deal. Does anyone know what they cost 10 years ago, and maybe speculate what they will be worth in 10 years? My best guess is they will double in ten years to maybe 5-6K.

They will definitely go up in value. I was lucky enough to get one in need of some TLC for about $1900 (serial 69xx) not too long ago. But I did spend many hours fixing it (mainly keyboard contact issues and cleaning) and recalibrating it. I guess there will always be deals to be found on ones that require some work or restoration though...

That's a hell of a deal.I read Vintage Synthesizers by Mark Vail.He claimed in the early eighties,one could be bought for $300.00.Yikes!!

Aaaah yes, the low years of analog, when everything digital was "in" and analog was "almost out". Unfortunately, things have changed for the better over the years, meaning that analog didn't disappear but prices have gone up and up and up.....

I forgot to mention that my Minimoog D still has the original price tag on it from 1975 ! It was bought by the guy who sold it to me (first owner) in a Canadian music store called La Tosca for...$1795 CDN (which would be roughly equivalent to US dollars in those days).

But close to $2000 in 1975 was a lot of money. About half the price of a new average size car.

I predict Moog will bring out the Model D again in a limited run like Taurus 3
Taurus 1s in good condition where fetching up to 7K on Ebay before this--now prices are for Taurus 1 are around $1500

I was offered a minimoog for $200 in the early 80s. No I didn't buy it. Yes I was an idiot.

Didn't get my first minimoog until 1992. Paid $1000 for it.

The Voyager is virtually nothing like the model D. I doubt the Model D could even be accurately cloned today. They should have left the "mini" off and called it the Moog Voyager instead. A great synth, but completely different beasts. The Old School is the closest to the Model D, but even its sound is a far cry. You can get some of the same sounding patches, but the not the warm, raw character. Cloning the Moog Vocoder is on the top of my wishlist.

i agree they are different instruments.
just wanted to react to the prediction, i don't think moog will bring out another "lookalike minimoog" other then the already brought out voyager

BTW, the Moog Vocoder was itself a clone of the Bode 7702 vocoder...

Please, no! Not this again. Yours may sound the same, I don't know. But besides the technical differences, my Model D has a pure, raw, nasty grittiness, along with a super pure bass and overall organic vibe to it, that the Voyager (which I kept for a year or so until I realized the Model D was more suited for me) in my opinion lacks in of itself, but makes up for in other ways. When I use "organic" I think most know what I mean, though I would be at a loss to put it into words (though perhaps the "polar opposite of Yamaha DX7" may suffice) . I would have kept the Voyager, because it was very complimentary to the model D, but it ended up being too time consuming for me, since I would not be satisfied without exploring every detail of its capabilities.
