Has died.
His words and music were so great, and Moog and Rhodes were all over his albums.

I never heard about him before, until I've discovered his ''I'm new here'' album.
Great man.Great music and lyrics.
R.I.P.
was i pushed or did i fall ?
Re: Gil Scott-Heron
I love listening to old 70's funk and disco songs because they invariably have that moog bass/lead with the rhodes and always the ARP string ensemble pad. These instruments always appeal to people when I play them, but I bet they never know its because they've listened to them on the radio for years.

Re: Gil Scott-Heron
A friend posted one of his live videos on twitter the day after he passed and after the "oh man, he's gone?" I saw the MiniMoog & him playing his Rhodes and felt "oh man" The man in the music lives. RIP.

Re: Gil Scott-Heron
Another one of my favorites.
Angel Dust (with Brian Jackson)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hWitRABYVBk
A lot of people don't know him for anything other than "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised" or his other works which were most definately Afro-Centric and often vitriolic towards whites such as his spoken word lament "Whitey On the Moon". lolol
But some of his stuff with Brian Jackson has several Moogs and Rhodes all over them...polymoogs, ect.
Another one I like is
"Home is Where the Hatred is"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cOUMvjw9RlA
Theres also a very great version of this song by Esther Phillips which is just as good if not better.
"Home is where the needle marks try to heal my broken heart"......wow!
I think in a lot of these tracks really come across as Modern (back then) torch songs. He is very revealing, even in his latest work "NY Is Killing Me".
The guy is extremely underrated.
Other good works are
Winter In America
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kcHOq8i5Pyk
What more can I say....his music speaks for itself.
What a loss, but what is more tragic is the fact that he lived most of his life in relative obscurity.

I must be honest, I never really checked on his music until recently, more so probably because the friend I was speaking of was his neighbor in NY as a young kid & told me he used to go to his house to just chill & be in awe & humbled to just be in the man's presence. The human element of people is always touching especially when told 1st hand. Thanks for the links!

Actually when he was in prison, I was going to send him a letter. I had the envelope sealed but for some reason I never mailed it. Then, he got out of prison early and I was a little dissapointed hahaha.
The same thing happened with Bob Moog, I procrastinated and had no idea he was ill. I had been assured by a lady at Moog that he was going to get my letter. I procrastinated and....well...
So many times you just have to take the moment and DO it because it will soon be over.
