Why you love your LP, rant time!

I’ve had my LP for two and a half years now. In that time I’ve bought and sold a lot of cool modern and vintage synths, but the LP has been the only one to stay. I’ve even taken it with me on tour and as I’ve moved countries, all the way across the world. Here are some things I love about mine, what do you love about yours?

-The Basses
NOTHING comes close, except other similar moog synths. It has this certain sound that I find impossible to program on other synths, a sort of deepness to the bass. Very, very nice!!

-Simplicity
I LOVE how simple it is. With other modern preset synths like an NL2 I used to have, you have no idea what each parameter is set to in a saved sound without hooking it up to a computer. This is pretty useless. That’s a big, big Moogy win!

-The size.
Ok, so it’s fucking annoying that this thing is a stupid shape. I mean, what the hell. But that aside - I managed to moved all the way across the world, taking all my worldly possessions (most musical) in the plane with me, and I took the LP with me too. I put it in the hold of the plane, in a suitcase I bought for $30 and fitted with foam. It’s in perfect shape. I love that the keyboard is just slightly longer than some other Moog synths, it’s the perfect size for me.

-The way the keyboard feels.
My fingers say thank you!

-Software updates
Ok, so this one is a bit of an unexpected one. When I bought the thing a few years ago I didn’t think Moog would add more features to it. Being able to install an ARP and sync the LFO etc is AWESOME.

-The fact that it’s a Moog
That’s a cool thing. I know it sounds lame, but I’m super proud to own a Moog Music instrument, I think the company is amazing and that everything they put out is of really high quality.


Sure there are things I don’t like about it, like the way the knobs aren’t very sturdy, or the weird aluminum plate on the back, or the way I have to use a GIGANTIC suitcase to transport it around. But those things aside, it’s still the best synth I’ve ever owned.

Well, I for one just love everything about my LP…of course, it has blue, amber and red lights on the panel, blue, red and green lights in the LHC, and coco bolo sides with brass inlay…I guess if I could change one thing it would be the addition of CV outs, but that’s a moot point because I just need to get my lazy butt to UPS to ship it to the factory. So I’ll go with a bronze back panel as the one thing I would change. Cool topic! :mrgreen:

Yeah, wouldn’t it be cool to be able to swap out the back panel. Is that an easy to do mod as it is, can you order another back panel from Moog, paint it and install it yourself? I’d be all over that!

But I mean, the only reason I’m thinking about what would make the synth cooler for me is because I already like it so much! Haha.

I’d love to have the number of filter poles selectable from the front panel, rather than the menu.

It would make things easier but there aren’t much synths out there where you can switch between 4 filter poles at all.

I love everything about my LPs: the odd shape, the fonts, the sound, the simplicity, the logos on the sides, the lights, the menu, etc.
I can only wish for expander modules so I could turn it into a 6 or 8 voice beast.

Certainly, but I would just love for one more switch to make things near perfect. Of course, if we’re on a wishlist charge, an external VC input to modulate waveshape wouldn’t be a bad idea either, as would a way to route modulation to control waveshape on only one of the two oscillators. But now I’m getting ahead of myself.

Nothing, it’s perfect the way it is although I wouldn’t mind getting another one with the CV mod.

Such a subjective subject. For example I love the shape of the LP but I think the keys feel mediocre.

Dude! You need to post clear photos of your LP, one photo for each side and angle. And close-ups of the brass inlays!

T7, I agree! Of course it’s subjective, that’s why there’s a forum to discuss it! :smiley: We’ll all musicians, we all understand that most things are pretty subjective when it comes to music :slight_smile:

With all(or most) the menu diving now accessable with MIDI CCs in V2.2, a knob-job MIDI controller could bust out each parameter to have its own knob.

I’m going to give that a go on my LP using my Behringer BCR2000… once I can get my LP to stop freezing at start up… Hahah.

Now, about MY LP Tribute…

I love everything about it. I love the sound, the shape, the simplicity, the Moogishness of it all. And it looks killer on stage!

And of course, I like that Rick Wakeman was gracious enough to sign it when I met him a few years ago…
