Keep in mind I can’t afford the delay…[/code]
The one I use the most is the delay (sorry!). After that, I use the ring mod a lot. I also use the low pass filter quite a bit, but only when running the Little Phatty through another effect (fuzz, distortion).
Outside of Moog, I use a Line 6 Verbzilla quite a bit. For distortion, I use a RAT. For fuzz, I use a Z Vex Mastotron.

Ring mod…as I stated in your OTHER post. ![]()
I’ve heard the ring mod is mostly used for intro/outro/noise. I understand that you decide where it goes, but will it sound good say if I used for a chorus part?
IMHO, yes. It will put a nice ambience into the mix.
It really depends how you use it. I get a lot of use out of mine for tremolo, fuzz, sci-fi, and gong type sounds. For my music, the first two types of sounds can work great for a chorus part.
I always think of “ambiance” as relating to reverbs or delays - something that gives the sound a sense of being in a space.
I always think of ambience as a characteristic that adds pleasant harmonics to a sound. A reverb or delay can also be an example, but really, anything that adds color to a sound in a generally pleasing way can be considered ambient. ![]()
Here’s how most folks I deal with would define it:
ambience (pronounced “ambee-ints”) The aurally perceived impression of an acoustical space, such as the performing hall in which a recording was made.
If you asked for more ambience or different ambience, they wouldn’t reach for their ring mod.
That’s the dictionary definition. I also use it to describe coloration of sounds, because I don’t know of any other way to describe certain colorations. ![]()

I know, it’s subjective, like my idiocy. ![]()
You made a recommendation to Lampspeed and the only word that you used to support it is one that you have your own definition for. If Lampspeed took your comment at face value, he/she’d be in for a serious disappointment. ![]()
I know you like posting, but your signal/noise ratio can be pretty bad.
What word would YOU use to describe the Ring Mod, Bryan T? Shimmery? Glistening? Chime-like? Bell-sounding? Ambient is clearly out. I truly am trying to be helpful here. ![]()
Ring Mods are good for lots of different instruments. They are good for tremelo on a guitar or piano, or with a synth they will take your leads into “Telephone Land”, they will add an LFO and an Osc to your Modular Setup.
Basically its a nice effect…but I think lots of Moog stuff can best be described as:
Outer Space is a great place, if thats where you want to go.
MoogerFoogers will take you to your limits and beyond.

Bryan,
You mean its not pronounced (Ahm, Beyonce)?
Here’s Moog’s take on it:
The moogerfooger ring modulator can create effects ranging from subtle tremolo to harmonically rich distortion, gong-like sounds, sweeps, swoops, and divebombs. It can be subtle, or outlandish in it’s use - you decide!
Works for me.
You mean its not pronounced (Ahm, Beyonce)?
Sure, why not? Great for adding that “crazy like that” ambiance to anything.
