I saw these guys (this tour) at the Greek theatre in Berkeley, CA while I was in school (showing my age here).
You can see Bernie on the left (this is the period between when he wore purple and now [where he wears purple]) but no Minimoog in his rig that I can see. However the bass player (Tina Waymouth) is pushing out that frenetic bass line on a synth center stage. Must be a Moog, but which?
Synths that I recognize on that stage are: Sequential Circuit Prophet 5 on top of an Emu Emulator, and indeed a small Moog Rogue on the right (the Mod Wheels are briefly visible). All of which have their names and logos covered by black masking tape at the back probably for legal reasons.
Surely not from the companies standpoint. They don’t write their brand name in huge letters readable from a mile way for no reason. Producer’s choice I would say.
Has anyone noticed, @1:12, the big and somewhat cumbersome G2 Panavision 35mm “portable” (26 lbs !) shoulder camera ? This was shot on film ! No HD video in those days.
That would not surprise me one bit… they went so far as to “ban” one of my favs videos… guess what… a rendition of Pink Floyd’s Pillow of winds played on a Theremin.
Yes. I’ve seen this many times, where the instruments used on a show are rented.
It’s a different story when the band, or musicians in a band, are sponsored and endorsed by instruments manufacturers. Then they are required to show the logos and names as evidently as possible !
It probably is sponsorship, but coming from a TV background myself, I wonder if it wasn’t a directorial decision. Everyone is co-ordinated in some sort of grey clothing and even the congas are grey. I wonder if they just wanted a very stark look with no text ruining the shots.
That makes sense. The guys must have hated it. Talking heads is opposite of conventional. Borderline crazy, just as we like them. Come to think of it, the whole set up is very bland, so is the video.
