Whats the best type of computer to use with a Moog,

Whats the best type of computer to use with a Moog, and for music creation.

The one you know how to use and for which you have software.

Most people would tell you to go for a Mac.

Since the Voyager Editor/Librarian software works on both Mac and PC, either platform works just fine. As for ‘music creation’ software, there are good programs for either computer. That said, you’re asking a very broad question with no right or wrong answer. Consider:

What computer are you using now? Familiarity with your hardware and current operating system might be enough to keep you on the same platform (per Don’s suggestion here). You may need to consider some hardware upgrades, however.

Are you willing to spend the $ to switch to another platform? The cost to do this could be considerable for the hardware and software needed, not to mention the purchase of all new software for other purposes (word processor, spreadsheet, drawing/illustration, etc.).

Are you willing to put up the learning curve of a new machine? Although Macintosh and PC operating systems have never been closer in operation and function, they are not the same and don’t work the same. This can lead to a ‘frustration factor’ until you come to terms with the new OS and software applications.

The bottom line: there is no universal ‘best’ machine for the task of music creation. The best machine is the one that’s right for you (that meets your needs) and that’s something only you can decide.

Ask youself: what are my needs?

G

Commodore 64

Easy OysterRock! Your goin way oldschool.

How about a Sid Station?

Hee hee, that was a joke. I like my G4 and wouldn’t have it any other way. Ever since I made the switch to Mac, I’m never going back. But everyone here is right, the best is whatever you like the best.

Yep. I love my PowerMac G4 too.

I’m workin with a dual processor G4. Very loud & very powerful!

I prefer mac, but today my XP laptop saved me as I bought an Edirol usb interface for swaping out patches for my AE at home. My eMac at home is running 10.2.8 and just couldn’t get the sysex (mac midiox version) to open, no problem on the XP though. Tomorrow I’ll install the new 3.1 bd.

Mac PowerBook G4 w/ProTools and the MBox, but still running it in OS9!

Has anyone had any experience with HP Pavilions notebooks?

I need a wintel laptop to run engineering software but i would also like to use it for minor audio apps. The HP looks to have the features i need at the right price but i’ve only used my G4 (and MOTU) for audio so i’m steping slightly into unfamiliar territory.

Any suggestions?

OS9???

It sounds like your setup would benefit from OSX. It’s worth the change.

Thank you all for your comments!!!

As you can tell by my original question we are really at the beginning of the adventure. Looks like we’ll be going with the PowerBook G4 w/OSX.

In order to setup a beginner’s studio for recording and synthesizing with Moog what would you all recommend. Please go easy on the $$$

Also, do you know of any classes on how to do this stuff in the Washington D.C. area?

Thanks again for your help,
Steven

Verax it  I got the whole kit way back when I got my G4 cause I didn’t like feeling like I was at the airport runway ready for takeoff. The kit really makes a difference.
