I’m looking into getting a Moog Voyager Signature Edition 2nd hand.
I’m just looking to find information on anything to watch out for. I.e. the pitch wheel, touch pad problems etc. Any suggestions on what I could ask to know I’m getting a good one?
Also, how much is a good price for one of these signature editions?
Most SE’s had the prototype pich bend wheel which is a bit iffy. If the bend up range is around 1/2 - 1 semitone different to the down range, then chances are it’s the work in progress. It was a free upgrade if the owner managed to get it to a service centre.
Obviously check the OS, touch pad etc, in short, check everything as the SE’s were the first 600 production models.
I wouldn’t pay more than £1000 over here in the UK, or $2000 ish over there? I personally would go for a new solar. Full spec, all the memories etc.
SEs have a four year warranty with two free tuning calibrations, and with all the SEs being made in late 2002 that warranty period is coming up. If it does not have the upgrade to fix the noise with master volume at “5”, the warranty will get you that. Make sure you get the certificate of authenticity and the gig bag as they were standard with the SEs.
And I don’t think you’ll find SEs for less than US$2000, they’re an elite unit. None of the other Vgers were made with brass badges or maple/cherry/walnut cabinets.
The normal voyagers go for more than £1k though - which would make the sig edtion less valuable which doesn’t make a lot of sense really. I guess its a case of try before you buy..
Would you advise to steer clear - I don’t want the hassle of a dodgy synth.
I paid a straight £1000 for my SE from a member on here. I PERSONALLY don’t think they’re worth any more, but it depends how much you value “brass badges or maple/cherry/walnut cabinets”. Remember, if you’re gigging, you need to take a french polisher with you, just in case
Given my choice again I’d go for a newer one with the latest memory upgrade etc, perhaps a performer.
hello,
i bought a second hand voyager se this year and because it came with a 4 year warranty, i sent it back to the factory and amos took care of everything. he did all the hardware improvements and the software updates. the only cost to me was i had the additional sound banks added. i can’t describe how rock solid this thing is now.
so if you see and se you want, don’t hesitate. in my opinion, these will be the most collectible and valuable in the future (for obvious reasons).
this is one of my most prized boards…right up there with my ra mini.
