just curious. ive been having a blast with the alesis philtre lately.
the one place that i think the phatty is kinda lacking is for long evolving sorta pad sounds, so i kinda want some ideas on what effects i could check out and possibly run through to get those sort of sounds.

Im sure theres a way that you can tweak the Phatty to do pads.
i should have been more clear. i like the real long and ever evolving and just plain f ing wierd pads. long reaktor sounding pads if that makes sense. ive been able to get some great sounds i like, but once i do it kinda leaves me less parameters to mess with if that makes sense. i kinda wanna externalize some of what i do so that i can control it separately. im gonna stop rambling now.
Well… you can tune OSC2 to a fifth and get 2/3 of a triad… With a slow VCA envelope and a long release, anything is possible. Wouldn’t be my first choice for a pad (my go-to for pads is a JX8P or an AX60 if I want something aggro).
I tried the LP through some effects today… The Big Muff was disappointing. Didn’t really add anything that I couldn’t get through overload and some EQ. I did have fun with the wah, though. I’m thinking that chorus would work very nicely, though. Something really sloppy like the JX8P chorus would be just the ticket.
I bought a new Line6 POD (XT) for my Gibson LP, so now I use the old POD (2.0) for my Moog LP. It works great! Especially the auto-wah …
Now there is a way that you can tweak the Voyager to where it will go through the filter for like 30-45 seconds. Ill mess with it and see if I can figure out how I did it and see if it will translate to the LP.

First let me say if you REALLY like the pads like you say you like you need a Virus TI (not the Snow, but the high-end TI kbd, polar or desktop.) It is king in my book when it comes to long evolving and really intricate sounds.
Having said that - the Phatty (and Voyager and even the Prophet 08) can make long, evolving sounds to some extent. Although I tend to use my Voyager for more drone-style sounds you can easily make them long and evolving by adding a couple moogerfoogers (or any effect) to the mix and have them play off each other. That is, set an LFO to modulate 3 times a second and another to modulate 1 time every 10 seconds…all of a sudden you have a sound that can evolve slowly and not “repeat” only once every 30 seconds give or take. Add another effect in and you can increase the time.
Kinda like what Brian Eno did with 4 tape players playing different length bits of tape from each of 4 corners of the room…if memory serves. Depending on your effects and their periods you can make it as evolving as you like.
Try using the EP2 pedal - you can assign it and then slowly fade it in over time - I find that an EP2 (assigned to filter in my case) can add much life to the LP.

EDIT-The MF-102 ring modulator is an awesome effect, as is the MF-103 phaser. Pretty basic, I know, but so very versatile when used with other 1V/oct devices. Beats the crap out of a lot of digital devices. I occasionally use a Danelectro Dan-O-Wah as well.
Well, my currently I run my Phatty through ye olde standard guitar lead… and then into a Roland Cube Street Amplifier. So right now it’s not really fancy stuff. Although there is a built in delay on there. Once I get the CP-251, then I’ll be able to contribute something a little more interesting 
I am running my Voyager through a Boss RE-20 Space Echo…can’t get any better then that… 
Next to this i also use a Moog CP-251 to get some weird effects.
Using old BOSS gear,rv-1000 and re-1000,ins of a Korg R3,EHX phaser,EHX memoryman,ins of an Alesis Micron.
Experiment,experiment and experiment.
The Alesis Philtre is a very cool little piece, and I use mine often - you can never have too many filters lying around. (For those who don’t know - the Philtre was one of six little ‘ModFX’ boxes Alesis brought to market a few years ago. The Philtre is a multimode resonant filter that features LP, HP, BP and Notch responses, and each response can be set for 2-pole or 8-poles (!). Originally priced at about $100, dealers blew these out for $25 each when Alesis bailed on the ModFX line.)
Chris, if you can get your hands on one, try the Alesis Bitrman. The various combinations of Ring Mod, FM, frequency shifting, decimation and bit reduction this little box offers (along with built-in distortion and phasing) will allow you to create soundscapes that can be varied over very long periods.
I put my Voyager & Phatty through a Lexicon mpx550 and a Line 6 Echopro rack. For evolving pads I like to assign a S&H LFO to Oscillators pitch. The MuRF is another one of my favorite FX for my Moogs.
Mine goes into the B channel of a DP-2, with flanger & echo. The A channel of the
DP-2 has a Jupiter-6 going through it with chorus and reverb.

My LP is run through a TC Electronic M350 processor. The delays are great, but the modulation effects are wimpier than Popeye sans spinach.
I’m actually in the market for a good chorus pedal and pitch shifter pedal. The former is for use with everything in my arsenal (I’m leaning towards the Red Witch Empress chorus; the online samples I’ve heard have been nothing short of excellent).
The pitch shifter though is for specific use with the LP. There’s a cheap’n’nasty pitch shifter on my Alesis mixer’s built in effects that is simply amazing for the price - dial it in a fourth or a fifth above the root note and the sound of the LP just blooms. But it suffers from an audio glitch that sounds not unlike a badly looped sample. I’d love to find something that doesn’t impose that sort of artifact into the sound, yet which doesn’t cost as much as an Eventide processor.

A Boomerand, a Maxon Ad-900 and sometimes a Kaoss pad 3. kinda covers all the bases i need covering.
I use an Akai Headrush delay looper - great delay and very playable.
I’m a guitar player, so I’ve got lots of pedals around to run my Little Phatty through. Some of my faves: anything Moog (104Z is great), ProCo RAT, Line 6 DL-4 and Verbzilla, Alesis Ineko, EHx Big Muff, Z Vex Fuzz Factory.
