What is going on with my Source?

I got my “buggy” Source fixed about a month ago. It had a filter that stayed open all of the time. A new chip fixed the problem.

I guess that my little keyboard did not like to be opened up however. Since I have gotten it back, it has shown a few new sets of bugs.

The sawtooth wave gave out on Oscillator 1. My tech told me which chips to pull to see if that was the problem, and I will have to check this out when I get a chance.

The other evening, one of the sequences that I have stored went completely wacko, playing something entirely different than what it was supposed to be. I re-did the sequence, and it is fine again.

Also, a couple of times, when I have played a sequence, it has started to speed up on it’s own, without any changes to the rate parameter.

Anybody know what is happening here (MC?)? Is this thing starting to show signs of Crazy Source Syndrome?

Thanks!

Sounds like the Crazy Source syndrome.

hiya,

it could be your touchpanel malfunctioning. i’m not sure what excately the crazy source syndrom is again, but the touchpanel is bound to break down for its a dellicate thing and gets abused. my touchpanel had an error at the spot where the connection to the mainboard comes out of the panel; it wouldn’t let me use half of the touchpanel and send wrong controller data to the mainboard. i could fix it temporarily by sticking something thin (like a guitar pick) in the small crack where the connection from the touchpanel goes through the top chassis.

just watch ebay for some time and there will be this guy who sells newly made touchpanels for the source.
those remakes are excellent (i bought one plus the two smaller ones)!

furthermore it helps to CAREFULLY remove each chip (but be sure to ground you beforehand or better wear a wristrap to ground you permanently. dont walk around during repair, and collect all your tools before starting to work. don’t know how experienced you are, so i had to say this.) and use 3-36 spray to clean the legs of the chips and the socket of possible oxidation. maybe you should buy a proper IC removal tool, for the danger whern removing ICs is that you might bend or break the legs.

good luck, and let us know how it worked out.
cheers,
dual
