Weird key response during legato key stroke

Hi there,

I recently purchased the Moog Sub Phatty and absolutely love it.

However, I’ve been recording with it this week and working with a melody that has a sort of soft legato sound to it. Unfortunately I am getting a weird response randomly when I’m going back and forth between keys. Occasionally the key will not respond and the sound glitches out and then comes back. It’s super frustrating cause I can’t seem to finish my recording in this style of playing. I thought maybe it was certain keys on the keyboard but I tried an octave lower on the keys and the same result. Maybe there’s something in the hidden features I don’t have right? I hope it’s not defective but I still have 20 days with my guitar center return policy if I need to exchange it.Any other style of playing seems to work just fine. Help or advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi jrivera,

The key thing about Legato (depending on certain settings) is that the envelopes don’t retrigger.

If your SUSTAIN levels for either the Filter or Amp EG are set to create silence over time, then your legato notes will eventually go silent.

If you don’t think that’s the problem send me a PM and I’ll give you an address to email me the patch, so I can try it on my Sub Phatty.

Thanks for the response Damon. I have my Sustain and release up pretty high, so I suppose this might be whats causing it.

Will definitely send you my patch, thanks!

Another track is that with legato enabled, the velocity-to-amp (resp. velocity-to-filter) parameter has the notes more or less loud (resp. bright) in a not so natural way. It works better in staccato, I find.

I also experience this phenomenon several times on different patches where the tone suddenly stops, even during the buildup of a slow attack or during the decay and sustain phase of a sound while playing legato. My opinion is that it’s a bug. I really ‘hoped’ someone else would spot this same bug, and here we are.
Thanks for posting this, jrivera! Maybe someone from Moog will be so kind as to look into this?

Yeah it seems to be something funky for sure. Although I did recently go in to the hidden parameters and set the Envelope Triggers to ‘Multi’ as opposed to ‘Single’ and this definitely helped a lot. It still happens every now and again but certainly much better than every other bar when playing Legato melodies. Maybe give that a try and see if helps you out as well?

If you send me an example preset I can try it. If you don’t, I can’t.

Dan, there’s no use in sending you presets. It occurs on all presets, even the factory presets.
What’s more, i even heard the same thing happening on the Sub37 of my friend!

Is there anyone @ Moog with ideas on this one?

Wired things might happen if you created a MIDI loop. To check this, simply play the SubPhatty from the keyboard without USB or MIDI cables attached. Still the same problem?

There’s no midi involved whatsoever…

Strange.

Could this be due to a bad poychain setting while not even polychaining? That would be all the time, but hey I’m trying to help

Thanks for the support Stiiiiiiive, but i never did any setting on that. It occurs out of the box…

Seems like there’s no one @Moog reading this forum anymore…?

Things do happen out of the box. So you checked this?
I remember updates doing sometimes strange things to global settings.

Still have some hope on this since spotting Amos again

This thread deserved a little bump.
