Weird Behavior with Little Phatty Editor

Hello! I got a Little Phatty Stage II last week and I am in love. After years performing and producing extreme metal, I’m so excited to doing something totally new. Unfortunately, I’m having some problems with the Little Phatty Editor Software.

Running Mac OS 10.8.4
LP Rev 3.12S 680
DAW is Reaper, but these issues exist both standalone and when using the AU plugin. (I find the VSTi crashes a lot.)

Issue is that the Editor software seems to hang and them my synth stops sending audio out, necessitating a full reboot. This is the kind of thing that will happen:

I’ll load a patch on the LP and change some parameters from the synth. As I make changes, I see the software reacting. Cool. I hit the Mod wheel, audio cuts out. While audio is gone, if I go into the software and change the patch to a slot that has something it, it will come back.

Just now, I changed some settings on the physical LP. I hit the button to go up into an empty slot, clicked “Get Patch,” and audio dropped out. If I double-click any of my preset patches in the software, it (the software) updates but the synth does not come back to life. Only solution is to power off synth, quit Editor, reload both.

Am I supposed to start by loading a library of presets into the software so empty slots don’t exist? Am I doing something else wrong? Any tips are appreciated.

Yes that is probably a good idea to start. Otherwise, an “empty” preset sets literally every parameter to zero (oscillator volumes, filter cutoff, master volume…) so the result is very… silent.

Here are some .fxb preset libraries for you to load:

hope this helps!

Thanks, Amos! This helped and led me to the cause and solution of my bigger problem.

I wasn’t able to load the files you sent so I want digging and found what looks like a bug in the installer of the Mac version of the software. For whatever reason, when it installed, it did not setup folder permissions correctly. There are two admin accounts on my computer: one that the original user setup, one that I use. It set everything for that user instead of the Administrators group. Other programs have done similar things, I need to see if there’s some kind of default user account that OS X uses for certain tasks.

Solution: set permissions on /Library/Application Support/Moog Music/ and /Applications/Moog Music/ so the Administrators group has Read and Write, make sure to use the “Apply to enclosed items” option. After this, loading Banks will work.

I’m guessing that on a successful install, it never leaves you with completely blank slots and instead each one says “Blank,” just like when you load the “Blank Bank” preset?
