OK, so if i’m understanding this - the vx will allow me cherry pick cool modules from modular systems without having to own a “complete” modular system, ie, vcf, vca, oscs, etc.
The VX-351 is the key to turing the Voyager into a semi-modular synth. With it, you can use the Voyager’s internal CV signals to control the MoogerFooger pedals or any other CV-based modular gear.
I assume from your comment that you’re looking at the ModCan Super Delay 30a. I see that the Mod Can modules use banana plugs while the Moog gear uses 1/4" jacks for CVs, so you’ll have to make the translation from one to the other yourself, or buy their interface. And of course you’ll need to power the Super Delay with +/-15VDC, unless you spring for the their rack/power supply.
Yes, you can ‘cherry-pick’ from selected modular offerings (and not just ModCan, but others, too). However, unless you are really dead-set on putting together your own modular system (not really a trivial thing), you might just want to consider getting the MF-104 Analog Delay instead. It’s self contained, comes with a power supply (wall wart) and has lots of those lovely CV inputs on 1/4 jacks. Perhaps not as full-featured as the ModCan offering, but a lot of capability in a convenient package, and a good start on the road to CV nirvana.
THanks to both of you for the advice. The 104z is so freakin’ expensive, it IS sweet though, I have noticed. Didn’t realize the bananna jacks vs. 1/4" - oy, was aware of the power supply issue.
Sir-dss, I saw one of your other posts that you’re a guitarist. I play some guitar too. Curious, are you still playing guitar with your whole setup, or just on the analog synths… I’d love to hear some of your music, and hear about how you integrate your voyager with the other modules and your guitar. Thanks!
This is my myspace page. It is mostly modular synth/Voyager stuff up there. One track is a copper wire connected to a contact mic going through a PA system…
