VX-351 or CP-251? New Question

Ello ello, I have been digging and digging through these forums trying to find a decent opinion of which one of these pieces I should get first. I know the truth: GET BOTH!! But my question is which one will best suit me before the other? I have a Voyager OS, the MF-102, and the MF-105. So I do have a reason to get both the VX and the CP. But which one first, AND WHY? Any opinion is a good opinion.

P.S. The only reason I am asking this is because in all my searching, no one has already owned the Voyager and the MFs prior to owning either of the aforementioned pieces. Therefore my question has not been answered.

I also have an OS. At first I wanted a VX351 to go with it (of course) but it was not stock at my dealer. I also have a CP-251, which features pretty much the same processing as the VX-351 (minus the OUT CV’s).

So the VX-351 does not do all that much for an OS user (equipped with a CP-251). XYA touchpad outs are a non-issue for the OS. The OS already has built-in gate an pitch CV outs, which I use a lot. As for the other CV outs, I don’t feel I need them as much as the in’s.

I will postpone the VX-351 till I purchase a Voyager Performer. In the meantime, if I ever need more CV outs, I have in stock DB25 connectors, ribbon cables and a Fluke. That’ll do the job.

And welcome to the group, by the way!

I had my Voyager and MF-104 before I had the CP or VX. I bought a CP-251 first. I wanted an extra LFO right off the bat and the lag processor and ability to invert a CV were also something I desired. Then, as my needs grew and I started building my modular. I had to buy the VX so I could use the Voyager as a controller. Now with 2 CP-251’s I spend my life surrounded by patch cords!
(I also use my foogers more with my modular than with my Voyager.)

Im going to say CP this time because you have the 105. If you had anything else Id probably reccomend the vx.

See the 102 can be used as an extra osc and tracks great with the Vx351 pitch output. This is gerat, but I think with the CP you will get more usage out of your 105 when you combine voltages and things.

If you had a performer, Id say VX351 because you could use touchpad out to change the step on your 105 and all kinds of goodness with your 102.

The vx will give your voyager ultimate control over just about anything. but since you have more Foogers to process the voyager id go twith the CP because it will give you control over BOTH the voyager AND the foogers.

The CP with the 102 or 107 is like having an extra synth because you can use the 102 or 107 to track the Voyager, or send a sample/hold or an lfo, and run the 107 and 102 back into the voyager. Say you are playing a really neat melody and then with the audio input volume, turn up a sample and hold in the background without sacrificing a voyager’s oscillator. The CP gives you an extra osc, or a miniature extra independant synth voice. I was just accompanying myself with the cp251 freqbox and voyager. If you wanted to record these two independant voices it would take 2 tracks but this way it only uses 1 track.

Am I making sence?

Get the CP for now and own your Foogers with ultimate control. Then next time, when you have more foogers like a 107 or 103 to add on, then youd want a 351 to bring everything together.

Either way you already know you need them both so pound for pound your CP will give you more bang for your buck.

Go to Novamusik and see what kind of deal they will give you for that, ill bet they undercut anyone out there.

Thanks everyone for helping out. Will definitely go for the CP-251 first, and thanks for such decriptive replies. Very cool!

I would go for the 351, I love CV outs..
