Does anybody know are 1/4 cables supplied with VX-341 and CP-251 or I have to buy additional cables to use these devices?
Cables are not supplied. I recommend Hosa brand TS and TRS cables. The TRS cables cost $38.00 for 8 3-foot(1m) cables at SamAsh.com. TS cables are much cheaper. Hope this helps! ![]()
EEK! I have a Voyager RME w/ vx351 and 352. I never thought for a second that I’d need TRS cables (except for mixer in) for patching solely on this thing. Please clarify, I don’t wanna fry the baby.
LeRoi, don’t worry. The TRS cables are only if you are using the CP-251 to control different parameters on other V/oct gear. I’m not sure if the VX-351/352 work the same way as the 251, but the white rings or (red jacks) on the CP-251 indicate that a CV can be used to control whatever on those jacks. If a TS cable is connected to these jacks, the CV is nullified. So don’t worry about it!
Moog (as always) has you covered! ![]()
Voltor!
I searched in audio cables but dont understand
I am a dummy in cables and Voyagers.
Please write a direct link on that cables you are talking about!
And please explain - do I need both TS and TRS cables? How many? And what is the difference between them?
And also - do I need to buy anything else additional to make CP and VX work with my voyager?
First off, search under patch cables…not audio cables. If you want to keep things simple you can go with all TRS cables…but you’ll end up spending more. And I do not believe you need any other accessories…just lots and lots of patch cables. TRS cables have 3 contacts instead of two, like a regular guitar cable. For an example, look at a 1/4 inch stereo headphone jack. And remember this bit if nothing else…ONE CAN NEVER HAVE TOO MANY PATCH CABLES! ![]()
I’d start with about 25 for both CP-251 and VX-351. 10-15 per unit, in other words. Now let me get you those links…BRB.
There’s the page you want…first two items.
Just as a shameless plug, visit my YouTube video post on the Little Phatty forum and see the 8 knob potentiometer box on the very first video. The cables coming out of it are 3 foot TRS cables. ![]()
Voltor - you are the best! ![]()
So do I need about 15 TRS and 15 mono patch cables for both these devices?
Nah. I’d get 1 pack of TRS cables in the 3 foot length to start out with. More can be purchased if you decide that you need more. I’d get one pack of six inch TS and one pack of 1 foot TS, just to be safe. That’s 24 cables total. That should do ya fine. ![]()
Great movie!
I see you are in love in your equipment! Fully understand
Me too ![]()
Where did you find 6 inches TS? I only see there 1 feet HOSA TS as optional
Ah…they must have stopped offering the six inch ones. Oh well.
Just get two packs of the 1 footers then.
Voltor you are really the best!
Now Im ready to buy full Voyager complect!
Just glad to help! ![]()
TRS cables are mostly useful for running control input jacks from, say, a Moogerfooger into a patch bay. This way, you can plug an expression pedal into your patchbay and it will still work. If you have TS cables plugged in all the time, you can’t use the “expression pedal supply” on the Moogerfooger.
Other than those, I think only the MurFs’ Tap/Step control needs a TRS plug (tap on the tip + sleeve (ground), step on the ring + sleeve (ground)).
Interesting!
Just a tip
For audio you might want some decent cables. But for CV you don’t need to spend a lot fdo cables.
TRS cables are Tip-Ring Sleeve cables. These are like Y cables so the Osc Out Filter IN jack can create an effects loop.
Try OSP cables because they are really cheap.
You definately don’t need to drop a lot of dough on cables just to patch voltage connections.

Hate to tell you EricK, but I did a noise test on Monster Cables and Hosa Cables. Guess which ones had less noise? It wasn’t the $30 Monster Cable. Surprised the crap out of me! Long story short, expensive doesn’t always equal best. I use Hosa’s for everything. Samson and Neutrik both make decent and affordable audio cables. They both show noise tests similar to Hosa’s.![]()
You proved nothing lol. All I said was that “decent cables” would be sufficient.
My point was that to simply send CV signals you didn’t need a good quality cable at all.
True, very true…sorry for the misunderstanding, friend. Hosa, while the most inexpensive I have seen, are the best in any price range. That’s all I was getting at. They can be used for either audio or CV, which is why I go with them. It should also be noted that Radio Shack brand cables are Hosa made, though they are lower quality than the Hosa branded ones. More expensive, as well!
