Aquired my Voyager Fire Red in september last year, and have been programming it for my different live setups since then. However, I´m having an issue understanding the tuning of it. I tuned it (following the tuning instructions found on the web) and the default patch (used when tuning) is in tune and everything works perfectly. But when I started working on it again this week, some of the patches are completely out of tune, and some are in perfect tune.. OSC 2 and 3 are set to pitch 0 but OSC 1 (on some of my presets) are almost half note too low. But again, some presets are not..
Questions:
is the main tuning pot saved to the preset? As I understand it´s not, but maybe ´m wrong.
is there any logical explanation of this tuning issue? Would it fix stuff if I tuned the synth again? Last time was in mid january.
do I need to tune it, and then make new presets to save over the old ones?
Your not the only one who has noticed this, don’t have any explanation. After opening up the back and tuning some presents are spot on and others osc1 is slightly sharp/flat. There doesn’t seem to be any pitch modulation or anything to explain why it is doing it. The fine tune knob setting isn’t being saved, I don’t think? End up having to retune using fine tune each time presets are switched. Not a half step here, a matter of cents.
You are aware, of course, that the Voyager needs at least 20-30 minutes to be completely warmed-up before playing or calibrating it ?
And you are also aware that when performing the tuning procedure with the back of the instrument open, the internal temperature won’t be the same as when it is closed, and will influence its tuning somewhat ?
And that’s also one of the reasons why there are holes in the casing for trimpot access on a Minimoog D, not only for convenience.
But in the case of the Voyager, the design of the analog board does not permit access to the trimpots from the outside without opening the back, unfortunately.
But it could also be a small bug on the digital side of things, causing this variation.
Another member here, Omaroo, recently had to perform a Factory Sounds reset because all of them were offset by 1 semitone flat, compared to the panel mode.
Aware of warm up time and pitch going slightly sharp once closing the case…it’s not that.
It’s that an osc1 “C” on one preset is different than an osc1 “C” on a different preset, for no apparent reason. I’m using a Peterson analog strobe which is darn accurate. You would think you could put the instrument in tune using the fine tune knob at the beginning of the session, and then switch thru preset sounds live and have it all be good. But it ain’t all good, each preset is recalling sharp/flat in relation to initial parameters. It just seems really currious…how it can be storing that.
Not sure if that is the problem the original poster is seeing but sounds similar.
Good thread. I think, that before I factory reset, that this might have been my one semitone flat problem too. For a reset to fix my issue means that it had to be a setting… obviously. Ah, we get to know our machines better by the day eh?
