Voyager road case alternatives - Gator G-Mix 20x30?

I recently picked up a used Voyager Electric Blue and am planning to take it to gigs occasionally. The Moog road cases seem pretty hard to find, so I’ve been exploring alternatives.

I was looking at the Gator G-Mix 20x30 case, which has internal dimensions of 20 x 29.13 inches. I was thinking it may be possible to compress the inner padding enough to accommodate the Voyager’s 30.5 width. Has anyone here tried this case and did it work for you?

Or maybe the Gator GTSA-MIX203006, which lists inside dimensions of 20" x 30" x 6"?

I think Sam Ash has them. I got my Moog voyagerATA road case awhile ago at a discount. It was on sale at the time . It was at Christmas time. I saw some on Reverb although I don’t know what’s there currently.

I wasn’t talking about the Gator.

I would try Sam Ash,Sweetwater,Kraft Music ,Guitar center. Mine was a gift so I don’t know where it was purchased from.

I think you can custom order cases from Anvil

Thanks. I’ve checked all the online stores and the Moog cases are not available.

I haul my own gear and will probably only be taking the Voyager out a few times a year, so I’m hoping to find an inexpensive alternative that provides decent protection.

Using “inexpensive” and “decent protection” in the same sentence is an oxymoron.

I have seen molded cases fail and damage the instrument inside.

When it comes to good quality protective cases, you get what you pay for.

I know this from 30+ years of gigging with different brands of hardshell cases and have always come back to Anvil cases. They make one for the Voyager, I have one.

Yes, in my 50+ years of gigging, I have become quite familiar with the merits of Anvil cases and, in fact, own several. In this instance, however, an Anvil case would be overkill.

Just saw a moog voyager ATA road case on reverb for $500.

Thanks. I saw that, too. It’s local pickup in Indiana, though, and I’m in NC.

I’m hoping to find a less expensive alternative, as I won’t be transporting the Voyager very often (maybe 2 or 3 times a year).

In case (no pun intended) anyone other than me is interested, a Gator GTSA-MIX203006 will not work. The foam on the sides cannot be compressed enough to accomodate a Voyager.

I had a hard time finding a case due to the Voyager’s unusual dimensions, so I had one made by a company called Rock Hard Cases in Oregon (https://www.rockhardcases.com/cases). The owner is Mark DeHart, and he’s great to work with.

I think mine was the second Voyager case he’s made, so I know he’s got the dimensions on file. I had him build mine with recessed casters on one end. It cost about $400 in 2022.

Thanks, square_wave! I’ll keep them in mind.

The Gator G-Mix 20x30 is a reliable alternative to the Voyager road case, providing both durability and protection for your stuff. It’s a dependable pick with plenty of capacity, while it may be slightly larger for frequent travelers.
