voyager poly-chained with phatty?

I tried looking for this topic on older threads and found some related discussions where folks aired their grievances about attempting the poly-chain, but those threads were a few years old, and I know the operating systems have been updated and such since then . . . so, my question for all you moog-heads out there is this: Has anyone recently attempted poly-chaining a voyager with one or more phatty(s)? If so, have you had any problems?

I ask because I already own a Phatty, and I’m considering a Voyager soon. I’m wondering what would be the coolest way to use them together . . . either poly-chaining, OR running the Voyager through the Phatty for extra filter, mod, etc? (or any other suggestions you may have). Come on, my fellow moog brethren, hit me with some knowledge.

thanks

You know, that the sound of these two synths is not the same? So polyphonic playing will give you different sounds on every second key pressed.

Well, I was about to buy a Little Phatty the other day to add to my current Slim Phatty - pretty much to start my poly chaining experiments.

I ended up not buying the LP and bought a beautiful Voyager Electric Blue instead - and thought to myself “there goes poly chaining”. Not so. I’ve just done it a few minutes ago.

I set up the Voyager’s MIDI Key Order (Master Menu) to “Maximum Keys: 2, Active Key: 1st” and the Slim to “Poly - 2 of 2”… and voila! Nothing! LOL

Then I remembered - instead of MIDI OUT from the Voyager - use MIDI THROUGH to MIDI IN on the Slim… and voila! Noise from two simultaneous keys  Also remember to use an external MIDI controller - not the Voyager’s KB.

Obviously what till says is right - the challenge is to match presets or your own sound such that each is nearly the same. I’ve found two presets that illustrate the point that some do nearly overlap - Voyager “Wormy Lead” (A17) and SP “Slippery Funk” (15) sound similar out of the box.

Works well enough - a few times I’ve struck two simultaneous notes and only the Voyager would respond. Maybe there are further things to set up and investigate, but it seems to do what I expected. Just have to tune them to each other and it sounds great.

thanks, Omaroo.

So, has anyone combined them the other way (running the voyager through the phatty for added modulation, etc)? Just curious if that would offer any interesting options.

How would running the Voyager through the LP give your more modulation? The Voyager has more of everything save an ARP…

well, I don’t know . . . that’s why I asked. I wasn’t sure if that could somehow make it more powerful by adding another filter, 2 osc, etc. . . . guess not, exposes my neophyte ways, I suppose.
