I just unpacked my new Voyager Old School (serial number 555) and now I am in the process of testing all functions to find out whether everything is in place and working. When trying the volume envelope I found that turning the release knob to the very right does not give me a release time of 10 seconds (that’s what the label says) but only between 1 or 2 seconds. My question is: Is there something wrong with the voyager or could the problem be caused by some other settings which I have to change?
I don’'t really know why the release switch is there. On the D a single knob controlled both decay and release, so the release switch was a way of switching release time between the decay time and instant release, but with the addition of a release knob… Hmmm.
You will find a use for it. Now you can have the envelope decay to the sustain level and either fade out after you release the key or drop instantly to zero at key release without screwing up the amplitude shape of the timbre.
Along the lines of what Just Me said, it’s useful (especially on the Old School) as a performance feature meaning that you while playing you can “instantly” (the key word) switch to an envelope that is more useful for sharp cutoff/solo type sounds then back to exactly where you were (longer or at least, noticable release)
