I’ve had the OS for several weeks now - the honeymoon period is over…im not going to bore you all with a long, subjective review…I think actions speak louder than words…
SCI Pro-One (SOLD)
Korg MonoPoly (SOLD)
SCI Prophet 5 (SOLD)
In my mind the OS is the best analog mono performance synth ever made. I am 100% satisfied with its tone.
I did run extensive tests between all three synths - my regret is that I did not record the results (computer broke down) for you all to enjoy. I programmed like for like sounds and when played at the same volumes the OS put out more punch, depth, weight, juicyness and power. Horribly useless words…but true nonetheless.
2 things I want to say - BIG thanks to AMOS who clarified an oscilator related query (setting of 2.5 gives me a pure sawtooth…not 3 as shown on front panel. Trust your ears people!). Secondly, I asked AMOS if it were possible for him to source me an entire set of pots, knobs and switches - for future replacement (30 yrs maybe). I thought it would be a good idea to get these parts now and keep them safe. Moog are looking into this for me…now thats what I call awesome service. I love my OS and want to grow old with it…these parts will help it last 60 years.
Some of you are probably wondering why I sold the Prophet 5. Well, after having a 20 min chat with Mr A…im convinced a Moog Poly will come to market within the next few years. As I said in another thread, the idea is being worked on and some big name musicians are providing input on its design. Its all about timing as to when it gets released. When it does, it will, without a doubt be the best analog poly ever. Whenever I play the OS…I naturally try to play chords (bugger) - my feeling is that if these sounds were played polyphonically…then hoooolllyyyyy shit!!!
If any of you are interested in hearing my thoughts on the comparison of sound between the OS and my older analogs I’d be happy to report back…
Thanks Moog
