I let my cousin see a Voyager, it was his first time to see one. His only complaint was that he thought that the Mod wheel should have some padding on it.
Now Im writing this because I had to take apart the LHC housing to get to the board that scans the keys when I did the replacement.
When I removed the LHC I noticed that the metal thing thats wrapped in what looks like medical tape that the spring the pitch wheel touches, the spring looked like it was eating its way through the tape to the metal. I wonder if this is going to be a problem
And Im wondering if there was a way that I could take a thick piece of rubber band and put it on there so it will Pad the mod wheel so that its not slapping it, and still allow for the greatest range of motion for the wheel.
I don’t know if rubber band would be a good idea. Rubber bands have this thing where they dry rot after a couple years. I may suggest perhaps using felt and/or rubber cement instead. I don’t know about the tape-spring thing of which you speak, as the LP doesn’t have tape in the LHC. I wouldn’t think there’d be a problem.
Thanks for the pic, RL! EricK, I think the tape should be left alone, and that my felt idea would be your best bet. Just based on what I’m seeing, at any rate. For what that’s worth.
I wanted to put something around there to maybe pad it, but I honestly don’t think that the Mod wheel is going to hurt anything. I think padding might keep me from returning to the ZERO point by restricting the range of motion of the mod wheel by the smallest fraction…one that would be enough to cause some unwanted modulation. It could also cause a responce from the rubber which will set the mod wheel past 1.
After looking at the mod wheel assembly I think everything will be okay.
Im mainly curious to know if the pitch wheel spring will cause any problems in the future. I think it will be okay too though.
