My hands on experience with a Voyager has been very limited (< 1 hour), so I wanted to inquire here about the Voyager’s ability to make off-the-wall sound effects/strangeness. My guess is that it probably does a good job and hinges on the player’s ability and knowledge of sound synthesis. However, most of the audio samples that I have found feature bass and leads only (which makes some sense of course). Anyway, I’d like to have a better sense of the sonic range that the Voyager has before I take “the plunge”.
To really answer your question, the touchpad is EXCELLENT for making sound effects not realizable any other way. Also, its fun to play with! I think some people are scared of it, but its a great way to get unique sounds.
Yes, it’s great for sound effects and funny swirls, distorted sounds and all sorts of alien weirdness. Be careful to listen at a reasonable volume, though, because sudden high sound levels may damage your amp and/or ears and may cause neighbourly trouble! Especially when self-oscillating the filter. That’s a lot of fun to play with, though.
It’s good for FX types of sounds. In fact that’s usually what I end up programming on the thing, odd types of sounds that don’t fit into the traditional categories of Lead, Bass, String, etc.
Which Vger edition did you have access to? The default banks in the Signature and Performer editions have a large percentage of effects patches.
Even if the model you have access to is an EB, you can actually select the
default banks from the earliest two models and experiment with them.
I’m not sure (it was about a year ago at a mom & pop music store), but it was probably an EB edition. I just didn’t have enough time to experiment with it. Thanks for the info.!
