dslocum, from the official PaIA website:
The 9720 Dual VCO w/Modulator features two independent VCOs, each with a chromatic range of 10 octaves from 16Hz to 16kHz at a +/- 1cent pitch error. Total range of each oscillator is from 1 cycle/minute (0.017 Hz) to 100 kHz so both can be used as wide range pitch sources convering the extending well beyond or super slow multi-waveform LFOs. Temperature stability is extraordinary due to a novel exponential converter that provides more accurate temp tracking than conventional designs. More details and tech analysis in the “9700 Series FAQ”.
Doug,
It would be really cool if it actually was steam powered and you had to shovel coal into it!
LOL!
Steampunk is not JUST about steam powered everything. Jake Von Slatt would agree with me. ![]()
Yeah, but if you really want to live the Difference Engine lifestyle, you need real steam power, not to mention a real top hat and perhaps a monocle.

Now I must don my goggles and hop into my Hispano-Suiza. There’s a new daguerreotype on display at the Victory!
We absolutely must meet sometime. The HMS Crimson Emerald is always ready to entertain. Top hats are not my style so much. I am far too adventerous for that. ![]()
We don’t belive in oil firing around here. The only good fuel can be carried in your pocket!
(This is on my kitchen counter, there was no room anywhere else.)

I love the smell of coal smoke and cylinder oil in the morning!
Why Waukeegan is only a half day’s sojourn from me! Will have my man-servant bring around the coach post-haste!
(Would also give me a chance to check out Novamusik while I’m up there.)
I personally am fond of a stylish homburg.
Cheers!
Just Me, that is a fabulous engine!
Couldn’t see the pic before, as I was at work and the servers block most photographical sites. ![]()
Mos Fet, I only list my locality as Waukegan because not many people have heard of Gurnee. Waukegan is on many maps, though. I am actually closer than Waukegan from Chicago, if only by a league or so.
It would be an honor to be in the likes of your company.
I am just getting into the world of steampunk, so any cost-cutting techniques while keeping authenticity would be most appreciated.
Of course, copper is cheaper than I can remember, and the cost of brass is a bit lower than usual as well. It’s the clothing cost that’s keeping me from going full steam ahead. ![]()
Sorry for all the smileys.
Gurnee? Why, I don’t even have to break out the GOOD horse for that!
PS; Why doesn’t MY wife let me have trains in the kitchen!
LOL
So what about the flashing P&M wheels…???
