voyager electric blue

just been visiting the gas station at Sonicstate and apparently the voyager electric blue was on display at namm. from what i can work out the electric blue is the same as the anniversary edition but minus the anniversary badge on the side. The electric blue uses the same black cabinet as the anniversary edition but has metallic blue flakes in the laquer which catch the light. think its one of those things you’d need to actually see to make a judgement on its look.

I still think its a shame that this new version basically devalues the anniversary’s status and feel it would have been better if moog stopped offering the black finish as it was meant to be limited edition. they should instead offer the performer only in natural wood finish but let the users choose different colour backlights for the front panel. IMO.

Well it’s posted on the site now. Of course the anniversary badge is gone, but I don’t see the ‘voyager’ plate either. Hmm…

I bought an AE and I´m just pretty disappointed about the “new” electric blue.
I think it´s an expensive tool, and you need a good portion of believe to buy something like this, unless you are a famous and rich musican whatsoever.
I realy don´t understand what should be now the special thing about the AE .
To me they look the same and with the reflecting finish the electric blue even got more glam.
I feel tricked I´m sorry to say so…I believe it´s not fair to all the people who bought an AE!

…It´s just a game…it´s just a game…it´s just a game…

Oh well whats done is done. Next month we’ll have the voyager digital red the analog green and the leopard skin print voyager signature special limited edition not!

The leopard skin print one sounds cool!

nice skin, the leopard one…it´s all about skin…I think I go back and make…sound and stop complaining. But it´s a bit like with cars, isn´t it. …just drive she said…

Someone DID refinish a model D mini in leopard skin. Looked pretty hokey to me. URL below.

Don’t that just go to prove that there’s no such thing as originality?

That is the craziest thing I’ve seen. I wouldn’t know whether to pet it or play it  Thanks for the link.

Hi,

Well, I think it’s getting ridiculous with all these AE, PE, SE, electric editions. It reminds me of Microsoft updates…

Why don’t they make the moogerfoogers and the processors the same color? It’s way kitsch as it is now…

Just my 2 cents on this issue…

The Anniversary Edition was a limited run to commemorate Bob’s 50 years of making analog electronic instruments. Nothing Moog releases in the future can change this; the AE will always represent Bob’s anniversary year. I own an AE and I’m proud to do so.

The Electric Blue isn’t really in a black cabinet; I don’t know how well it photographs but they look different from the AE’s in person. The only thing that could have devalued the AE is for Moog to keep on making them instead of limiting the production run. The Electric Blue is a way to keep making cool backlit Voyagers, without (in my view) devaluing the collectability/uniqueness of the AE. There will definitely be enough visual difference between the two models to keep them distinct.

I’m sure there won’t be fuzzy plush Voyagers or Hello Kitty Voyagers or red/green/blue colour-changing flavor-of-the-month Voyagers; just a cool blue one as the new “flagship model” to replace the forever-limited, never-again-to-be-produced Anniversary Edition. And that’s OK!

looks the same to me bar the ae badge and a few metal flakes in the paint. Its way too similar. It definately devalues the ae in my opinion. The ae was meant to look unique and bar the blue flaked paint and badge most people would have a hard time distinguishing the two.moog should have gone back to the original performer and offered backlighting as an option albeit not in blue. i think that in general ae owners feel a little unhappy.

exactly

Is backlighting still an option, or does it come as standard on normal models?

the voyager line is very confusing now. are moog phasing out the original performer (as they don’t seem to promote it at all these days) in favour of so called special editions which arent really special at all. these gimmicks are in danger of dumming down the moog image-people who buy moogs want something unique in a keyboard and the electric blue is not a wise move imho. iron out bugs in the os before giving us silly paint finishes.e.g. wheres the octave up and down switches which are necessary performance controls.no new keyboard is without them except the voyager.very frustrating indeed. moog need to get their priorities right.girly paint jobs do not help them one bit!

I think it’s still an option if you want to convert a Performer/Signature. But I don’t think it’s standard on Performers. Is Moog even making Performers now with the Electric Blue? It would seem the Blue would just take it’s place. A little confusing.

The Voyager is becoming the Gameboy of instruments, being released in different colors/styles.

It would probably piss me off more if they made serious hardware changes/improvements to the Voyager, unless they fixed all existing ones for free!

Hi,

does anyone have close-ups of the Electric Blue? The one in the Moog site doesn’t tell much…
