Voyager//Dark Energy//Dark time...

Hello all,

So, I have my Voyager, and the two Deopfer units Dark Energy and Dark Time. I’ve got enough spare queens head to buy 2 moog expanders.

How far can I push the DE and what would you recommend as an initial expansion?

Maybe a fooger or two (is that what you mean by ‘expanders’? BTW warning - foogers are addictive!) With their various CV input/ouputs they would be a good match for both your Voyager and Dark Energy/Dark Time equipment, expanding your sonic/creative horizons quite a bit. You will need 1/8 to 1/4 patch cables for your patches between the Doepfer & Moog equipment however, which Doepfer can supply. I have a Voyager, Dark Time, MF-103 & MF-107 so far, the more you get, the more you can push the envelopes with permutations/combinations of all of them…
Let us know what you get!

Thanks for that!

Yeah i’m going to get a couple of foogers - but would you advise getting the vx or cp expander first? Also, what are the best results/combinations you’ve found with the Doepfer and voyager?

I’m going to get some varied modular boxes too and build them up. I think I’ve started along a very long road!!!

Can’t wait!

Yeah I reckon I’ll pick up a couple of foogers.

Do you have the CP or VX expanders? What’s the best config for the voyager when you use it with the Doepfer kit?

I’m probably only one or two steps ahead of you down the path you are travelling. There are far more experienced users in these forums that can give better advice, I just get excitable and want to share how much fun I’m having so far! I only acquired my freqbox a few days ago and have had little time to experiment with it, but already I can see the horizons broadening when I start thinking about the different patches that can be made with the Inputs & outputs of just these two (the phaser & the freq), let alone combining them with the Voyager’s CV & audio/effects inputs out of the box. I also have a Korg Mono/Poly which has a few CV input/outputs as well to play with to add to the mix. So far I don’t feel the need for either the VX or CP units, that’s not to say I wouldn’t like to have them, they’re definitely on my list for later on! Today I just put a deposit on a ClusterFlux and took home a EP-2 from one of the best Moog dealerships in Melbourne (Hi Awave!) so I’m really looking forward to getting the MF-108, but have to be patient! In the meantime, I’m going to warm up the oscillators and play with some patch cables, the EP-2 and the foogers I have at the moment!

PS, re the Doepfer Dark Time and the Voyager, the midi seems to work best for me, with the CV/ Gate inputs I haven’t worked out how to stop the last note hanging when I stop the sequence yet…

Heheheheeh - yeah I’m just weighing up the possibilities…and you’re right - you’re a little more down the road than I.

Although I doubt it’s a problem really, but regarding the VX and having to add an internal part to the voyager (and, thus, voiding the warranty) I find it staggering that this part isn’t either equipped as standard OR added onto the VX board. I mean, the RME has the adaptor fitted on it’s board with far less space. What’s the deal?

I don’t have a problem with opening the hood and fitting it, but it still makes me uneasy…

I know what you mean, and voiced similar doubts in another thread here somewhere… Luckily for me the dealer I got my Voyager from said if I got the VX-351 they would install the doodad for me so it would stay in warranty… But honestly, like you, I wonder why Moog doesn’t have it fitted as standard? Especially in a synth that costs so much anyway, it’s not like it would add that much extra to production costs/time surely? It’s one small component.

Ok, so i spoke with Moog and they say that taking the back off does in no way void the warranty…

Must have been Chinese whispers!
