My first post! I’m about to get a voyager, but am himming and hawing over whether to do select or OS. I love the idea of a backlight…they look amazing, but I read somewhere that they’re only rated to last 1000 hours at full brightness. I’d imagine that number is quite a bit higher at reasonable settings, but obviously, they’ll need replacing. Is this a user serviceable replacement? Expensive?
Select or OS? Well, would you miss not having MIDI? The OS doesn’t have it and the Select does. If it was me, I’d get the OS, just because it’s…well…old school. That’s me, though. I agree about the backlight wearing out and needing replacing. That could be very costly, even if doing it yourself.
How about somebody that actually KNOWS respond here instead of random ‘uh,.. duh I think this and that…’ That’s not really sharing information. Just taking stabs in the dark.
Okay,
In the manual it clearly states it is not a user servicable part. Is that acceptable?
It doesn’t take too many brains to figure out what is going to void the warranty and what isn’t. You ever see any upgrade kits available on the homepage?
You send it to the factory for repair. (Or turn it off. Then it’s like the earlier Voyagers.)
Having had a Mini in the past, I understand the OS. But I would NOT be without the touchscreen and the extra modulation routing the other Voyager present. (I don’t use MIDI much, but it is nice to have.)
I was quoted $300 total to replace the back light in my Select Series from a Moog tech.
I was told it’s a difficult process to replace the back light, so I’m planning to buy the parts and keep them stored for when the day comes to have someone do the work.
