I just got into synths and love the way the Moog works. But there is a problem.
How can I adjust the vibrato on a Minimoog. I’m trying to play “Just What I Needed” (I know that it was done on a Minikorg) but I think I can get it to sound like that on a Moog.
So far, I’ve gotten it very close but cant seem to figure out how to add vibrato to the tone.
Switch off the Osc 3 Control toggle. This will disconnect Oscillator 3 from keyboard control so that you will get a constant vibrato rate.
Switch Oscillator 3 Range switch to LO. This will slow down the modulation waveform so it will make a vibrato or trill, rather than make a garbled type of sound. This garbled type of sound is kind of cool for other effects though. Try a vibrato in the 32 or 16 range on the Oscillator 3 range switch. This is not what you are looking for on the song you mention, however.
Turn off Oscillator 3 in the mixer. Otherwise you will get a series of clicks from the slow oscillator tone.
Turn the waveform knob on Oscillator 3 to a triangle wave. This is the closest thing that the Mini has to a true sine wave for vibrato. You can hardly tell the difference. Use other wave forms for different modulator effects. Square/pulse gives a trill. Sawtooth or reverse Sawtooth gives a ramp up or ramp down type of sound (like a space ship landing sound).
Turn on the Oscillator Modulation switch.
Play a note and turn up the Mod wheel on the left hand controllers.
The mod wheel controls the amount of vibrato and the Oscillator 3 tune knob controls the vibrato rate.
Season to your own taste…
Also play with Filter Modulation switch. This will add a vibrato to the filter frequencies as well.
