This may be old news but I did not see it posted here. I just noticed on Sweetwaters summer NAMM coverage that moog announced version 3.0 of the voyager OS with the ability to hold 7 banks of 128 patches!, the External Mixer knob has a second fuction, scrolling through presets quickly (very needed) and the ability to lower the resolution to work with older midi gear! There may be more but this is what they have listed. This stage of OS development is always the best, the bugs are gone and now the goodies start coming. I can’t wait till it comes out. (there was no date)
I just spent the last 1/2 hour trying to log in here - couldn’t figure out my password. I seldom post here -it’s been over a year probably. My intent was to reply on the OS2.6 thread after downloading 2.5 last night and being disappointed that there was no fast scroll program change feature like on the RME. Then I finally figure out my password and you musdt have just posted this while I was not able to log in. Thanks for the good news.
(added) I’d love to see an octave transpose feature using an existing knob as well.

Thanks for the post. I also just read the Sweetwater email about this (their summer NAMM coverage) and headed here to let folks know.
Glad to hear the update is real - it’s been rumored for a few weeks now. Rumor also says that the update will be available in early August.
Cool to have lots of room to store more presets. And improved MIDI interfacing (7 or 14 bit CC’s), quick program switching, bug fixes and who knows what else?
BTW, the Sweetwater report says that OS V3.0 is for all Voyager editions, including the RME.
Greg
However. . . .I believe you need to purchase a new board for the V’ger for the scrolling function to work and/or to get the new banks.
Hhhhmmmmm - wonder where they got that idea from ???
To quote a post of mine from December 2004…
"The second facility allows fast scrolling through the Voyager patches without having to touch the PC at all, although MIDI connection to the PC is still required.
Using the Voyager front panel ‘External Input Level’ control (I would have liked to use the Headphone Volume control but this does not send MIDI CC messages so I chose External Input Level as the next likely most least used control in a live performance situation) the user can quickly scroll up and down through the internal Voyager patches. One or two Up/Down button pushes may be needed to spot the required patch exactly."
Granted, my method relies on an external PC - but I’ll still be expecting my name to appear on the OS 3.0 boot-up screen ![]()
that is great news, I have to update my home mac computer soon as well (still running 2 G3’s), now I’ll just have to go ahead and get either a Motu 828 Mk11 or an Alesis Multimix with firewire.
What would have to happen with the new board - any ideas if it could be done at home or would we be sending out Voyagers in for this to be installed - just not sure what you meant here.
I think it will have to be sent in for upgrading/mod. If the voyager faciliated the memory to store more banks from day 1 then there’s no reason for it not to have been available from day 1. Anyone else have any thoughts? It’s great news though.
Where is everyone getting the idea we will need new boards? I didn’t see this mentioned anywhere when I read it. In fact, I remember reading that features like the ones we are seeing now would be added once the OS was at a satisfying, bug free, finishing point. Then the extra memory could be used for added ‘bonus type’ features like expanded patch memory. Like I said I only read this comment in another post sometime ago so I am nowhere near an authority on the subject. I guess we will just have to wait on the good word from Moog. I will try and email them to see if I can find out about this board rumor.

That will be awesome! I’m tired of writting over patches. Also, it will be nice to get all the presets for the different Voyager versions.
I have heard from a reliable source that this upgrade will consist of a board with more memory chips and will be a KIT for ~300$ you build and install yourself or bring in your voyager to Moog and ~500$ for upgrade. Also it seems that new voyagers after a time will have this memory as standard.
FYI,
bosonob
Well, if the KIT isn’t difficult to install I’d go with that but for those of us who know what the Voyager looks like inside the $200 extra spent could be a piece of mind thing. Just have to wait and see.
OysterRock you should get the editor so you don’t lose your patches. I held out as long as I could but happier with it because you don’t have to worry about overwriting patches and can categorize them.
I suspect that if you’ve ever worked inside a PC’s installing CPU’s, boards, or memory .. you might not be that intimidated.
I was able to install the VX-351 adapter inside my Voyager without any problems, so I guess I could have a go at installing an additional memory board. That is provided there’s no soldering involved and it connects to a connector much like the VX-351 did.
For $200.00 (plus the shipping costs and risk of shipping) it’s going to have to be really be tricky! ![]()

I eventually will, but it hasn’t gotten to the point where I’m losing patches I really like. I’m still writing over crappy presets (there are a lot!)
A hardware upgrade is a put off, but its understandable and unavoidable. If there was extra memory available, I’m sure it would have been implemented by now.
Well I have emailed Moog support and my rep at Sweetwater and with any luck we can get to the bottom of this price/hardware mystery soon.
Yea I hear ya. I overwrote all those default patches with ones I programmed so I was stuck. The editor was the best thing for me. I’ll most likely get the memory bank updgrade when confirmed.
It sure would be nice if I could get those extra preset banks without coughing up a few hundred bucks. Let us know!
In this day and age it just seems ridiculous to charge that type of price for memory. There is no way it costs that much for the parts and labor. The profit must be astronomical. A good example of this is the new elektron User Wave MachineDrum. Now I’m a big elektron fan and own the monomachine, but an extra $400 for 2mb of flash memory, you have got to be kidding me. They tried to say the type of flash memory that allows it to load samples into ram on startup accounts for the price but there is no way it costs more than $30 for 2mb of any flash type memory. Presets themselves should take mere kbytes to write so I assume it will not be too much memory on any possible hardware upgrade. Let’s hope if we do have to pay, it is at least reasonable because I think $300 for a self install kit is ridiculous.
there is no way I am going to spend that much for a memory upgrade! I will get the editor, dwnld ver 3 and use the 128 I have, tweak them for what I need.
Hey I just got this email from Sweetwater:
Hi Mark,
I still have somewhat limited information about this upgrade, but here’s what I do know:
The upgrade Increases presets up to over 700, includes Anniversary Ed. banks and other special banks. Better MIDI implementation for use with older MIDI equipment. Allows incoming audio control knob to be used as patch scroll wheel. It is a Hardware upgrade which costs money although I have yet to find out how much. It can be user installable if one is comfortable with doing something along the lines of installing RAM, otherwise, it needs to be sent in to our service dept for the upgrade.
I hope this help shed some more light on this. Check back with me soon as more info will be made available.
Thanks for asking!
So it seems as if we are going to have to pay for this one for sure if we want it.
From my understanding you need the board to utilize V3. Hopefully I am wrong.
You know it is possible that there is more to this board than memory. Perhaps it will be utilized for other future updates.
