I just found time to run my LP hooked up to my computer and into Ableton. I’m running the midi through an Edirol UM-1S which is a USB midi interface, it has an in and an out on it. I only have one midi cable which I assumed I could use the same way as I did for updating (from the phatty’s midi in to the interface’s midi out). I thought that while I don’t have another midi cable I could just use the Audio out to record the audio. My intentions are to control the LP through Ableton’s sequencing abilities…but after some fiddling, I have no idea what I suppose to do.
Insert MIDI track. Assign it’s output to the Edirol’s out.
Create a new Audio track, and make sure the input is set correctly for whatever hardware input you have the LP attached to (I assume you can record audio ok). Make sure the LP audio track is armed so you can hear it.
Should work fine like that i use Ableton myself.
Also make sure you have all your hardware set up right in Live’s options. Under Preferences > MIDI Sync, make sure that your Edirol’s IN/OUT ports are turned ON under the ‘Track’ column.
I got the midi hooked up and it’s absolutely fantastic. I love being able to set a loop going and listen to all the presets through the loop. Now all I need is Roland TR etc and I’ll be going to town. God I love the LP
I am just starting to explore what this combo can do… the microtonic is excellent at FAT 808-style drums but it can also sound very modern. It’s the best analog-modeling drum synth I have found, and you can play it via Midi or write patterns on its own very Roland-esque sequencer. Wicked fun!
