USB Noise

Hello All,

I just started working on revamping my setup a bit and found that when I plugged my LPS II into my MBP via USB I was able to hear a terrible hiss/noise slightly pitched to a really high ‘E’…

Not a ground loop - everything is plugged into the same strip. Turned off all other gear except the MOTU Ultralite mk3. Interestingly - when I change the the audio out to the built in Core Audio stuff I don’t hear the noise but when it goes through the Ultralite (even when not powered via AC) I get it pretty plainly all the time regardless of MIDI actually being sent.

Been plugging and unplugging but can’t seem to make it go away. Still need to try another cable but thought I might ask on the forum to see if anyone has had any actual experience with this problem and maybe has a solution?

Still troubleshooting…thanks!

…not quite same thing, but I noticed that if the USB was NOT plugged in, I would get ground loop noise… plugging it in instantly eliminated it…hadn’t noticed any other noise so far…

Could it be a noisy cable? Perhaps one of them magnetic clip cylinder things Radio Shack sells would help.

I’ll continue to troubleshoot this as time allows - in the short term I’m just going to use MIDI for MIDI. Will report back if I find anything.
