USB MIDI pass clock to MIDI OUT or THRU?

Hello

I’m working on a set up for playing live and am wondering how the standard MIDI ports work with the USB MIDI port on the SP.

If I send a clock to the SP via USB MIDI can the SP send that clock to another MIDI instrument via the MIDI Out or Thru port?

or the reverse, receive a MIDI clock signal on the MIDI in port and pass it through the USB MIDI connection?

If this is supposed to work is there a something I need to configure on the SP?

Thanks!

I dont see why midi clock wouldnt appear on the MIDI through jack regardless of where it comes from (MIDI In jack or USB midi)… Although there might be some logic in there preventing the midi in jack from working if connected to USB (to prevent the issue of receiving multiple midi messages on two midi input jacks (one being the usb midi in), but I dont know.

As for the phatty sending midi clock over the USB when it recieves midi clock on the midi in jack is another question. I dont see why not, but its been awhile since I’ve read the midi USB class spec…

Yes, you can do everything you want to do:

There is a “Midi Setup” menu within the SP’s master menu. Scroll through the Midi options and you should find “Midi Merge”, where you can route (or combine - there are slots for two sources and two destinations) Midi messages to and from different ports (Midi Din and USB).

I hope this helps!

Thank you gentlemen!

Exactly the answer I needed. Everything is working as I wanted now. Here’s my set up:

Elecktron MachineDrum - DIN to Slim Phatty MIDI IN
iPad - USB MIDI to Slim Phatty

The MachineDrum is the clock source
and I use an iPad app called StepPolyArp for midi notes, sequences, etc on the Slim Phatty.

Just for others that may read this thread. The slim and stage 2 can echo an incoming midi clock, the stage 1 and tribute can not. The slim and stage 2 have a 2nd processor to handle midi (hence the need for two different sets of firmware, OS firmware and what moog is calling the usb firmware). The stage and tribute have one processor handling both duties and echoing an incoming midi clock was too much strain.
