the filter knob on my Sub Phatty suddenly stopped working. Whatever i do, there´s no more response (Filter is full open).
Of course i didn´t turn it overly hard or something.
I reset all shift commands and global settings to their default values, but no change. No response either when i try to control it with midi cc.
It´s quite urgent, since tomorrow the test period the shop has given me is over, so any help is very welcome!
I was running USB over midi and filter CV in from my Dark Energy. Filter knob just suddenly stopped working. I had to power the Sub down and back on again to get the filter to work. Not terribly troubling, but it should be noted that this has happened on more than one unit.
I just got my Sub Phatty today, I’m loving it so far but this is happening to mine too. Using in studio One via usb & suddenly the cutoff knob stops functioning, its happened a few times. It has to be switched off & on again for it to work, hope this is easily sorted.
King Friday, if you would be so kind as to try the most current firmware to let me know if you have any further problems with the pots afterward, it would be a help… at least to let me know I’m looking for a problem that continues to occur.
I am actively working on pot-related issues right now, it is my top priority!
(edit: for minitaur also…)
The firmware update went smoothly & seems to have sorted it, I’ve been using the SP in Studio One for a few hours now without a hitch.
I should’ve known to try a firmware update 1st
Successfully installed firmware 1.1.8 and experienced a new issue. I lost complete control of the panel. No knobs or buttons responded and I had to power the unit down. It happened once over the course of about a 3 hour session with Sub and Ableton talking over USB.
Something similar happened to me today too in Ableton Live, were I lost sound & had to power down & back on again. There was no sound coming from it in Live or from the Sub P headphones. But it was fine again for the rest of the session.
My Sub Phatty filter knob is acting strangely:
When I open the filter cutoff knob completely and reach a certain point towards the end of the rotation ( the 5-20khz area ) the filter jumps back to closed, and if i touch or press the knob slightly it might go back to normal…
Does this sound more like a hardware issue or firmware?
Hi,
I believe I have the same issue (only recently), but in the 20H-320Hz region
The latest firmware (v1.2.4) did not resolve this. It makes the filter practically unusable as smooth sweeps are impossible
Ugh… this happened to me about a month ago. I was prepping for a gig and the cutoff knob just stopped working. I power cycled, did a factory reset, everything. Nothing would bring it back to life. I had to scramble last minute for a synth to play the SubP’s parts, along with all the stress that goes with it.
I left town for a few weeks and when I got back: PRESTO! The cutoff knob worked.
I would rather have had it be a hardware problem that could be definitely fixed or not as oppose to this software dodgy-ness. The reason I buy hardware is because it is supposed to work and not “crash” like a computer. A trusty SH-101 filled in that night and a 30 year old box put Moog to shame when it came to reliability.
I have a friend with a Minitaur who has had no end to problems with it’s panel not responding, changing patches randomly etc. And this thread is proof that these problems are pretty widespread.
I love the sound of Moog, and the SubP sounds amazing! It’s taking the place of my Rogue, which is much more limited, but has never “crashed”. Can the powers that be PLEASE make the software side of things work reliably? Moog will get a reputation for buggy hardware and that’s about as bad a trait hardware can have in my opinion. Something that sounds great but doesn’t work just doesn’t sound great anymore…
Please tell me how you were using the Sub Phatty at the time –
was DIN MIDI connected? Was USB connected? Were you running any DAW software?
How long had the Sub Phatty been turned on when the filter stopped working?
DIN MIDI (as I still have issues with USB)
DAW= Ableton Live 9
I was using the Sub Phatty for at least 1 or 2 hours if not more.
The first power off/on did not solve the issue.
if anyone who is reading this has the filter stop working… please answer the following questions:
does the LFO affect the filter when it’s in this mode? go to Active Panel mode, turn up LFO modulation amount knob, turn up Mod wheel, make sure LFO is in a mode where you can hear what it’s doing… turn up resonance so you can hear if the filter cutoff freq. is moving… let me know
when the cutoff is “dead” like this, what is the actual cutoff frequency, roughly speaking? is the filter open all the way? is it closed all the way, or is it somewhere in the middle?
