Updated: Lemur control template for Minimoog Voyager

Hi all

I’ve been developing a basic set of Lemur (iPad) templates to control the Voyager - just a fun exercise and because Lemur’s physics engine lends a new dimension to random automation. It’s based on a underlying structure of Adam Taylor’s (Salt+Slug) efforts in developing the same for the Little and Slim Phatty models. The Voyager is somewhat different, so I’ve tried to include as much of the Voyager’s control functionality as I could without cramming the displays too much. It’s still in an early phase of development, so I won’t post it to the Lemur Community sites just yet, but should have it up there over the next couple of days. If you own an iPad, Lemur on it is drastically cheaper than buying the legacy tool. Although I LOVE playing with the synthesiser’s control knobs, like everyone here, this method provides more tweakability when you run out of hands - and the bouncing ball automation can just be set to run and it sits there constantly modifying the sound as you go. Very nice indeed. You’ll notice that this is the “Electric Blue” edition… LOL

Anyways - it works well. Still work in progress.

Is lemur for ipad as unreliable as the hardware system? The damned jazz editor was a nightmare to use as I found myself spending more time programming a template than actually using them. I sold mine which also had Dexter onboard a month after buying it. I was disappointed in the entire machine actually.

By the way, great job on your templates there.

So far, the Lemur iPad app has been as reliable as the iPad typically is… i.e. it’s been ultra stable. As far as the editor goes, it needs polishing.

Cheers for the feedback mate.

I guess I’ll wait for the day the editor works better.

Btw, an old friend of mine was an ANZAC in ww II. Sure would be nice to visit him down under someday… it’s just such a pricey trip from the northern US.

Nice work! One question though; what is the resolution of parameters ? Is it the standard 7 bits of MIDI CC?

It’s 7-bit.. eh!

I don’t think there’s a need for higher resolution when using a touch surface really. Your fingers aren’t as precise swiping a plate of glass as they are deftly turning a real knob in hardware - well, mine certainly aren’t. For what it is though, control is still reasonably fine-grained. I’d love an RME owner to try it when I post it. I think for that edition this could possibly be even more useful.

I don’t know much about Lemur. Is it possible at all to send MSB and LSB MIDI data with it ? At least for sensitive parameters like filter cutoff ?

OK - I’ve finalised this version, 1.0, and called it “MoogVoyager_v1.0” - if rather unceremoniously. I’ve updated the images in the first post to show you two new tabs.

The file is here: http://liine.net/en/community/user-library/view/198/ if you’d like to download it for your Lemur app on iPad.

The Program Changer is mostly functional, and will select and de-select presets correctly. Select your preset and it becomes active. At this stage you need to hit it again to de-select it before you’re returned to the default of Preset 1 - from which you can choose another preset.

The Bank Select feature doesn’t work yet, and until I find out even if you can select banks via MIDI it’ll stay dormant.

If you have Lemur, an iPad and a Voyager, please give it a go. I’d like to hear back from those that might try it out - especially if you have an RME.

In theory, yes, you can - although I can’t get it to perform any differently with either. I haven’t delved deeply enough yet, but still don’t really see any advantage. I’ll have another look over the next few days. Anyway - in the meantime, it works brilliantly. I’m having a ball exploring textures as I stream MIDI to the Voyager.
