This moog modular on ebay has etchings on the modules “Pasedena City College”. Seller makes no mention of etchings. Located in Tuscon AR local pickup only. Not stolen, is it?
This is at least the third or fourth time this system has been listed, and as far as I can tell, there’s been zero activity. If anything, at $60K the seller has likely found what a modular Moog isn’t worth. Good luck to him, anyway…
Sometimes a seller has a wife who wants to get rid of gear so the seller puts an astronomical high opening bid or BIN on it. It gets re-listed multiple times and no one bids on it, after which he tells her he is keeping it because no one wants it.
OMG!!! That’s the Moog that I cut my baby teeth on!!! (1977-78).
There are modules there that I don’t remember, like the control voltage switches and stuff… plus there was only one keyboard and a ribbon controller. But there are many of the old familiar modules in the correct order and everything. Could be that some parts were swapped out or added, could be that my memory ain’t what it used to be.
Along with the Moog, we had two Teac 3340’s and a Sony half track. Alexina Louie (famous Canadian composer) was teaching Electronic Music Composition there at the time. She had us reading disparate stuff like “Silence” by John Cage, “My Younger Years” by Artur Rubenstein, “Lexicon of Musical Invective” by Nicholas Slonimsky, etc. What an education…
The best way to find out if this is a legit sale (other than contacting the seller directly) is by calling Pasadena City College.
