So I thought about the perfect gift for myself.. After 25 years of making music, mostly for fun, some professionally, but all passionately, I took the plunge, emtpied my savings account and bought myself a voyager (lunar cherry), just before they disappear. A choice made partly thanks to this forum of fellow passionate musicians, so thanks to all of you for that.
It’s gonna take a few weeks for it to arrive, but i thought i’d join you guys (well mostly i assume) here at the Moog Music Forum and start the anticipatory pleasure!
Welcome M-Prod !
Congrats on taking the plunge ! Prepare yourself for the “time fast-forward” effect of discovering a new synth, and forgetting to eat and sleep, with your new splendid Moog (when it arrives).
Be sure to post photos of this beauty, when you can.
Alain.
Well thank you Alain,
I promise I will post some pics.
First thing i’ll do is backup and clear the presets. Start with an empty slate.
Now let’s watch some more voyager movies..
Welcome to the forum and congrats on the milestone birthday.
I think you will appreciate that new-Moog smell. I look forward to hearing your contributions.
Eric
Welcome and congrats, M-Prod ![]()
Great 40th present! I was going to get a Voyager for my 40th, but got a Vespa instead, then a Voyager for my 41st! win win lose! (the lose is for my debt management)- Welcome, and feel free to hit us up with any questions, yadda yadda! Very wonderfully nerdy nice forum here! ![]()
I’ve been celebrating my 40th for the last ten years ![]()
Welcome!
Lol, Such warm welcome!
@MC.. So what’s it gonna be for milestone #5 ![]()
BTW my Voyager OS is the 40th birthday present of the guy who sold it to me. He had to because his daughter was having her own bedroom.
Nice story too ![]()
@ stiiiiiiive - Lol this is getting funny.
When my daughter got her own room and my son mine (my studio), I spent a few months trying to find a solution. First tried a rental studio (which is financially a no-go in Amsterdam. It’s a moog voyager every two months). Then figured I might fit one or two boards in the bedroom. But we (together with my wife, she’s awesome) moved all furniture around in the bedroom and bought new stands to finally fit in all equipment + acoustic material. Here’s what it looks like now. The white piece in the bottom right is our bed, so you know how tight it is. A bass guitar is hidden somewhere too.
Just trying to say… he should have kept it
- good for you though, stiiiiiiive
hmm no attachment. Board quota. Well here it is:

you know, let’s make this my profile pic for now
That’s not so bad, M-Prod. At least everything is at arm’s reach ! ![]()
An ESQ-1, great underrated synth. I’ve got its younger brother the SQ-80.
Yes still love it. Will never part. I bought it new. My first synth. It was this or the DX7..(before anyone realized how big a synth that would become). Don’t use it much, but when i do, it fits the mix instantly. Unlike the NL2x. The keyboard has been repaired like 5 times. Love the SQ80. The ‘ESQ-2’. Use it much?
[edit] guess so.. is it what i see in the collective soul - gel movie next to your impressive drum rig? ![]()
Mostly for its great and very user friendly sequencer and interface, when I want to “automatize” some tracks, via MIDI, and synchronize things (drum machine, synths, etc…). I do still use some of its sound capabilities as well, but not so often anymore. I prefer the much cleaner sound of the filters of the Korg DW8000 (inspired by the design of the SSM2044) to the Curtis ones in the Ensoniq.
I gifted myself an EB back in 2005 for my 46th birthday.
Told the wife seeing as how I am never gonna be able to afford a Corvette or an apartment for a mistress a Voyager seemed fairly reasonable. ![]()
Excellent gift idea! Congratulations on your purchase. Nothing quite like a Voyager. I bought myself the performer edition last year for my 30th, and I still can’t wait to turn it on everyday. ha
Welcome to the forum. Glad to have you.
(Edit) M-prod, I also noticed you have one of the Anniversary NL2x models. ME TOO! What’s your serial number?
Hey M-prod, are you satisfied with the sound in your room?
Im gonna have to go small to next year, whats the mesurments of the room?
Thanx eneuh voyager al binnen? ![]()
Cool! I will have to get back on that. I won’t be home for a few days.
Nee nog niet binnen
begin april..
Well i was very satisfied in my former room but this room is fine considering the far from ideal circumstances. This setup helps me tame the bass and since it’s a bedroom.. there’s a bed in the room that also helps. When i do some (hobby quality) mixing i also open the closet across the room, so the clothes dampen the sound some more. The room is stuffed with crap in general, which also adds to better acoustics
. Not ideal for critical mixing, but I can get a good basis from here and adjust on headphone and other speakers in my house. It’s a t shaped room, anywhere from ideal, and the acoustics are quick n dirty and nowhere near ideal for this room so not much of a reference to you. But it was much worse without and I can state that ‘throwing around’ some panels helps any room. Let me know if you still want the measurements, I’ll look it up when I get home.
I got my advice (for the former room) from the very friendly people at GIK acoustics. I sent them a google sketchup of my room and they advised me how to treat it, I would suggest you do the same. They will help you without any certainty of purchase.
And they have a UK distributor nowadays. I had to ship to the Netherlands from the US. I don’t know about now, but I could not find an European altnative. Even with shipping it was cheaper to buy GIK.
A quick answer is, treat the corners for bass, the walls and ceiling for reflection (from your speaker to your ears). Keep some reflection for a natural sound. Natural stuff like cupboard, couch and stuff also helps. Symmetry is important. I used to move the panels around a lot for recordings too. The GIK panels hang like a painting so I could put 3 on a chair for a singer e.g.. Goof luck
Thank you verry much for that info Mprod, gonna contact those guys as soon as the room is ready.

As promised
NG1 245 what’s yours?
Funny detail is I bought it of a guy that sold his Voyager.
