Troubles with France repair service

Hi, I would like to ear some advice from moogfoogers users.

2 years ago I’ve bought a MF104. 6 months after it goes out order : no delay was produced, only drive was active. I sent the MF to repair service and received it back 3 days after. Then, 6 months after, the MF goes dead again : same problem occured. I contacted the after sales service, complaining about having the same failure again, but they told me :

  • warranty was expired (1 year), so I would have to pay the repair
  • the ‘board’ of the MF was changed the first time so they were not faulty
  • the way I use the MF might be wrong

I must tell that I’ve been irritated by these answers even if I’m a MoogerFooger enthusiast (I’ve got them all). I don’t misuse them, obviously the board was NOT changed (I might be the most unlucky man on the earth to have a board failure twice) and their first repair action should be covered by a 1 year warranty too.

So, I would greatly appreciate your advice because I won’t pay 300$ for a board replacement and may be you can help me to find a solution : I’ve discovered that when the MF stop delaying I can resurrect it by tapping with my foot around the bypass switch. I can hear a big noise delayed, and then the pedal works fine for some times. Again, when the problem occurs, the green led is still ON and the drive knob does respond, so the MF is not completely unoperating.
May be some of you know what is happening and can help me to find the failing component, or at least isolate the problem.

I must say that I remember a time when customer relationship was meaning something. I know how business is going today but I don’t like that way. Or may be it’s the ‘French touch’ after all.

Thanks

There is a device mounted on the pcb that has metal tabs that can come into contact with the top of the metal case-- like when you push the button to activate the delay. The fix is simple-- tape a piece of insulating material between the tabs and the case. Like a business card.

I think you pull off the wood side on the RHS of the pedal as you face the front of it. You should be able to see the situation clearly.

Had this same issue on my 104SD. It can still drop out once in a while. Try unplugging the power supply and re-powering when that happens.

There is also a thread devoted to this issue somewhere around here. It even has pics.

Mine does this also. I’ve not sent it in for repair yet but planned on doing it and having the spillover mod done, too. It is REALLY annoying to not have it delay EVERY time I tap the bypass switch to direct. If a bit of insulation will fix the problem, that will be cool.

Thank you SO MUCH ! I’ve removed the MF sides and I clealy saw the PCB beeing quite disconnected with pins touching the front metal part.

I’ve put a temporary business card to isolate the problem and will take some time next week to replace the jumpers with closed ones. Problem solved !

Amazing ! You provided to me a free solution in 5 minutes while those monkey techs weren’t able to fix nothing. Such a shame that people knows so little about the gears they sell.

Thanks again !
