Too loud fan in RME Voyager

Some time ago I bought a Voyager RME. This is obviously a great tool, but bothers me too loud fan (I have a very quietly studio and it is annoying).

Can I open the Moog Voyager RME and just disconnect fan?

I did like this in my Mytek 8x192 8 Channel AD/DA - on the advice of the manufacturer - they just advised to make room - bottom and the top - about 1U dimension in rack case.

Is the fan in the RME is needed?

greetings
Adam

Hello Adam and welcome.

Is there a fan inside an RME ? I don’t think so… (I might be wrong since I don’t actually have that model)

If indeed not, what you might be hearing instead is a faint whining noise from the panel backlight… Try turning the brightness knob fully counterclockwise and check if the noise disapears…

But if there is a fan, I would contact Moog Music support by email before disconnecting it…

A fan inside the RME? No!

Yup, this is almost definitely the cause.

If it is the lighting, then there is an upgrade for that to the “quiet II” technology if you want to go that route.

Aren’t all RME models already equipped with this ? The RME model came out much later after the Quiet II upgrade was offered for early EB models ?

Im not sure at all. According to the site, they came out the same year, in 2005.

Not a lot of into out there on timeines.

Well, if they came out around the same time, it might be possible that some early units might not have had the Quiet II technology for the backlighting on his RME.

I wish that “Unique_rme” could maybe come back to revisit his thread and tell us what he thinks of all this ?

Hi, very sorry that I did not write a long time but I had some problems.

Yeah, of course turning the brightness knob fully counterclockwise works - I discovered it by accident.

Thanks for your answers
