I was experiencing some unwanted noise in my signal chain so started the process of isolating each pedal from my pedalboard one by one…
It came the turn of the Freqbox. I plugged in a Moog PSU and powered up. There a strangle whining noise, not from the pedal but from the PSU… Then I got a static/electric shock from the cable jacks connected to the Freqbox! I quickly powered down and changed to another Moog PSU (I have 5 as I own 5 foogers!). Thankfully no noise.
Freqbox powered up and bypass let’s the signal through fine. Turn the pedal on and my clean/dry signal is there, BUT none of the Freqbox/VCO sound. It basically seems the faulty PSU has killed the VCO!?
The mix knob on the pedal now basically blends from dry to silent!
I’ll need to check when I get back to the studio but I ‘think’ it was reacting normally. It may of been always on (certainly not always off) but I do think it was reacting my input fine.
I’ve had my freqbox cut out like you described a couple times. All I did was cycle the power and all was normal again. I haven’t had that problem since I moved from that house, so I think power issues can do weird things to the freqbox, but mine’s not fried, and hopefully yours is not either.
Seems it was some damaged components caused by a failing power supply.
This has been repaired and it now working full bore again…! WIN. Good day to receive a repaired big of Moog gear… makes me feel like I was celebrating Bobs birthday
