a lot of our music is composed in Reason with modulations (filter and osc 2/synced to osc 1) synched to the beat, lots of s/h stuff. this is tough to sync in a live setting with a real drummer, so i set up patches that let me just tap the screen randomly in time with the beat - its like having a s/h that you can play like a tabla.
i love to use the screen for pitch or osc 2/synced to osc 1 by touching and gently rocking my finger to create vibrato like a string player would - very expressive
i wish i had a big ribbon controller so i could play it with my ass like keith emerson
I think the touchpad is great. Try assigning it to ext. in level, osc. 2 pitch (sync on) and osc. 3 pitch (FM on). Oh yes, and patch the output into the Ext. in. You get these great expressive screaming sounds. It kinda feels like a guitar when you play it; it screams more when you lean into it. You have control of general “evilness”, but you can’t be 100% sure of exactly what the parameter values are at any given point. That’s much of what makes the Voyager so great - when you push it, it feels like it pushes back.
Overall, I’m not happy with the touchpad being in the centre of the panel. Sure, it might make the voyager look more symettrical, but I would have rather had the touch screen on the left by the pitch and mod wheels.
Love the touchpad. I love that it can control my Moogerfoogers Delay and Ring Modulator as well as my Blacet moduler pieces too. Pretty cool. I do like a Joystick as with EMS synths. Thay seem to be wilder when used(early Roxy Music Eno), but with the Voyager it’s just deeper with all the modulation routes you can go.

Yeah, I know what you mean. It is nice to be able to get to it with either hand, but 75% of the time, I’m using it with my left hand.
Now a standalone Tactex touchpad, with 3 CV outs… That, I’d dish out some cash for.
Well, maybe more than 3… 6, maybe. 3 pairs, with each pair opposite, so each finger movement creates 2 CVs, opposite from each other. Tactex 3D crossfader!
Oh, and if Rudi can get the operating system up to transmitting MIDI continuous controllers, it’ll be even better! (I’ve used the joystick on my Yamaha TG33 as a pair of continuous controllers to provide a pseudo-3D pan effect before. Good stuff!)
