I remember when we all started getting our T3s and there were a number of posts saying the famous Taurus preset wasn’t quite right. Of course back then the only fix was to copy it and then edit as the first four slots were fixed.
Now that the first four slots are writeable, I was thinking I’d like to tweak the Taurus 1 patch. However I can’t see any reference to what the actual settings on the T3 are that get it closer to the original preset.
So if there are any kind T3 users who tweaked their patch (especially if you had access to an original Taurus) could you please post the settings you changed?
Mr Arkadin, i haven’t tried this personally and I don’t own a T1 however… some of the early videos of the T3 on You Tube have it being played with/compared to the T1 and some of them were quite thorough and did a comparison of the original presets…
From what I remember the T3 with generally just a touch brighter.. (I remember a lot of people seemed to be of the opinion that it was easier to get a T3 to sound like a T1 than vice versa because of this extra brightness, you know, being subtractive synthesis and all )
anyway… from what I recall, some of the first things i’d do is maybe roll back the filter amount and cutoff a touch to get some of that dark back..
here are some links to some T1 v T3 comparisons that might make your life easier
I don’t mind a bit of extra brightness. I mean the Taurus 1 may have been brighter when it was new anyway. I may tone it down a little though.
I seem to remember some comments about adjusting the Beat somewhat - but I can’t seem to find those discussions - maybe I imagined them, or they were somewhere else like the (dead) Taurus minisite.
Thanks for the link MC, not sure if I have seen that before - good read, ta.
Mr Arkadin - I think I remember something about some details on the original 3 presets being changed slightly (presumably to make them truer to the original) with one of the FW updates a year or so ago? Maybe that’s what you’re thinking of?
MC - I was just reading that link you posted above.. very informative stuff.
I did have a question though.. at the bottom of the page it says
“Two derivative products grew out of the Taurus III: the Minitaur is a tabletop bass synth module with the sound engine of the T3 and a full set of knobs, and the Sub Phatty is a similar product with 25 note keyboard.”
Would you care to expand on that slightly? I’m assuming this is because the Sub Phatty has the adjustable beat parameter, but does the shared heritage go deeper than that?
