Hello all, just thought I’d say hi as I’m new to this forum.
After waiting months for a SE to appear in the UK I finally managed to get hold of a TE at a very reasonable price, and it was definitly worth the wait
Not only is the LP a beautiful looking machine it also sounds immense. I love the fact that it’s so minimalist; it only has the basic features that you really need, but still manages to sound huge. I can’t wait to use it on stage, all blue and glowy ![]()
The only thing I find slightly disappointing is the build quality in certain places. I think what annoys me most is that the rubbery coating on the pitch bend and mod wheels has begin to wear off already
I’ve only had the LP a couple of weeks, and the shiny plastic is showing through underneath. Has anyone else had this problem? Or maybe I just use the pitch and mod too much ![]()
The other thing I noticed is the quality of the keyboard - it plays really nicely but something about it feels a bit cheap. A few of the keys make odd noises like little pings and clicks - if they all made the same noise it wouldn’t be so bad, but the fact that some of them sound different leads me to think that one of them might be about to break.
The only other irritating thing is that noise/artifact that you can hear at high volumes or when the filter is closed, but there’s already endless threads about that so there’s not much point in talking about it again ![]()
Don’t get the wrong idea, I don’t want it to seem like I’m having a moan about the LP, I’m just mentioning some of the things I didn’t like about it. I doubt there’s anyone on here who needs me to go on about how good it is!! Other than that I think it’s pretty much perfect, although I’ve never owned another Moog so I have nothing to compare it to…Incidentally, how does it sound compared to other Moogs?
Oh yeah, and I wish they could have come up with a better name. Come on, ‘Little Phatty’? Think I’m gonna stick to LP.

I too love the way the LP looks and sounds. I have a LP Stage II and got the CV Out Mod for it. I like you, do not like the keys. They sound mechanically noisy/cheap and do feel light. The noise is what really irritates me because I can hear it over my playing in my studio. I actually sent my LP in for warranty when I got it because the top most key was making such a bad scrapping noise and felt like it was catching (I also got the mod done at that time.) Moog replaced the entire keyboard but the new one also makes unpleasant noises, like you mention, only with certain keys doing it. I was hesitant to buy another Moog keyboard but did break down to buy a new Voyager Old School last week and was really relieved to see the keys were not noisy like the ones on the LP. Unfortunately OSC 2 on my new Voyager OS is dead but that is another story for another thread. Overall I like the Little Phatty and have thought about getting another one but the keys are my only biggest gripe and have kept me from doing so. I have yet to wear out the rubber coating on the sides or on the pitch/mod wheels but then again I have not gigged with this piece atleast not yet.
The LP has a lower quality keyboard than the Voyager series. If they offered a higher quality keyboard, cost of the unit would go up. I’m sure that if you wanted a better keyboard, and were willing to buy a Fatar keyboard and pay for shipping the LP back to Moog, they would be more than happy to charge you to make the modification. Actually, the Stage II’s have a slightly upgraded keyboard from the TE and Stage I’s. ![]()
Comparing the LP to a voyager, wow… The voyager has way better keys… It never really bothered me until i actually got the voyager… Oh well, its still my favorite little synth!
Fatar makes the BEST keyboard actions…period. Not sure who makes the LP keyboards, but I’m pretty sure it’s NOT Fatar. ![]()
