Taurus pedals spotted on stage with UZEB?...

Hey Mooguys.

I’m mainly talking the Canadian mates here.
I was 14, my friend whose uncle is a jazz musician brought me this record that was quite different from Nirvana or SoundGarden: Fast Emotion, by UZEB.
I rediscovered it lately. Well, I figured out I knew it by heart, even the solos haha! I remember myself working out their tracks, 15 years old. I cannot play that good now and have just decided to take my “le piano jazz pour tous” book again.
Anyway, I’m looking at some vids of UZEB since I did not even know what the guys -Alain Caron, Michel Cusson and Paul Brochu for the permanent members- looked like.

And on that one, I can see some bass pedals. Not sure they are Moog’s though.
Just wanted to share

I am not Canadian, they are not Moog pedals, but I like that music!

Those very talented guys became avid users of technology at one point. Michel was using guitar synths, Paul was using a lot of electronic percussions, and Alain was using a lot of effects on his fretless bass guitar. They were also using a lot of MIDI sequencers live for backing tracks.

This song, by the way, isn’t one of their best. Rather simplistic, despite some shredding in the solos section, compared to what they usually did. One has to smile at the, now corny, noises samples of early samplers of that era at the beginning of the song… :unamused:

That bass pedal looks like it could be an Elka. But definitely not a Moog. If the picture quality was a little better than 240 we could probably make out the name in big letters on it…

I ordered the DVD of that concert, maybe I’ll get a better look.

Any recommended quintessential UZEB CDs? Not much new music appeals to me today, this was one of those rare exceptions.

(I know UZEB disbanded in 1992 and are not “new”, I am finding a lot of great music that never got much distribution in the US market or on US radio)

Sounds like the same sound of the Chick Corea Electric Band.

The two I litteraly eroded are Fast Emotion and Live in Europa.

BTW I’m glad you like it

I don’t think they’re Moog pedals.
Perhaps T2’s, but even then they don’t quite fit the look.

I’d never heard these guys before. Thanks for the vid.
Definitely a talented group.
The drummer was obviously an advocate of 80’s Roland pads.

My only “problem” (and it’s me, not everyone else) is that a lot of such fusion type bands don’t produce much melodic music.
I see their obvious talent and tight playing, but it comes across as either a jam or a showcase of technical ability.
I leave such concerts or recordings feeling empty like I had just watched a photographic food expose, but was only fed a graham cracker.
Again, this may just be me, but I find works from Ozzy Osbourne to Nino Rota to be far more memorable in terms of melody and theme.
When I first saw Keith Jarrett play, I had the same feeling.
I remember thinking “I wish I was watching Vince Guaraldi than this.”

I totally get your point, Kevin. Believe it or not, but I’m not a shredder fanboy. I precisely find UZEB quite talented on the melodic, if not popular, aspect of their fusion. I agree the vid I posted is not showing that particular aspect of their music. Nad this is not innocently that I mentionned the record I fell in love with being Fast Emotion. That one contains what I’m tempted to call jazz fusion pop hits. I don’t want to force anyone, but if you decide to listen to it, I’m curious to get your feedback.

Another (the other, I think… ) virtuoso album I love is Thrash Deluxe Gnô, featuring the french guitar hero Christophe Godin. Here again, I find the solos not only sophisticated but kind of catchy. PLus the guy is not taking himself seriously, I like that…
